Burger King Reveals There Was A Big Mac Hidden In All Its Ads This Year

We’ve seen some clever ad tactics in our time, but Burger King hiding a Big Mac behind a Whopper in every single one of its ads this year might be our favorite to date.

When it comes to fast-food, there is one company that definitely occupies the number one spot and has done for as long as we can remember. That company is McDonald’s. Everyone else is playing for number two. When it comes to picking fast food’s silver medalist, there are a few schools of thought. Wendy’s, KFC, and Taco Bell are all in the conversation.

However, due to the similarities of what it offers up in comparison to Maccy D’s, Burger King is probably the safest bet to put in second place. BK certainly seems to think so as it continually takes shots at McDonald’s. It does that by making fun of its mascot Ronald McDonald, replies to McDonald’s-loving celebrities on Twitter, and even convinced lovers of its rival to get Whoppers tattooed on them.

BK’s 2019 ad campaign is the best shot it has fired McDonald’s to date, though. The best part about it is no one, aside from the masterminds behind it, even knew it was happening. Until now. BK revealed on Twitter this week that in every single one of its Whopper ads in the UK in 2019, there was a Big Mac hidden in the background.

We say the background, even though there was indeed a Big Mac on set for every Whopper shot, no one would have been able to see them. That’s because in every ad, the Big Mac was being obscured by the Whopper. That was the point of the campaign, of course. BK was trying to point out that its Whoppers are bigger, and therefore better than McDonald’s signature sandwich.

As clever a campaign as it is, there is one glaring issue that has been pointed out multiple times in the comments beneath the original tweet. Perspective. One of the reasons the Big Mac is obscured from view is due to the fact that it is further away. That being said, the Whopper might well be bigger than a Big Mac, and whether it is or not, we are big fans of these tactics.
