Elsie Choi, a film and TV development veteran who has worked for such producers as Dan Lin and Bruce Willis, has joined Los Angeles-based CJ ENM America as executive VP and head of scripted TV.
CJ ENM is a South Korean entertainment company that has produced content such as Oscar-winning film “Parasite” and popular Korean fantasy drama series “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.” Among the company’s recent productions are the romantic drama “Past Lives” with A24. It’s also the company behind the annual KCON Korean pop culture conference and concerts held in downtown Los Angeles in August.
Choi most served as an executive producer on the upcoming 20th Television/Hulu TV series “Interior Chinatown,” based on Charles Yu’s 2020 novel of the same name. Taika Waititi serves as director and executive producer on the series which stars Jimmy O. Yang.
Choi has had a long career in film and TV. She previously served as head of development at Willis Brothers Films, and as senior VP of development for Mad Rabbit, the banner run by director-showrunner Kari Skogland. She also worked for Lin’s MRC-based Rideback production banner.
At CJ ENM, Choi will spearhead creative operations and adapt titles from the company’s existing collection for English-speaking and global audiences. She reports to Angela Killoran, CJ ENM America’s president of U.S. scripted.
“We welcome Elsie with great anticipation and look forward to the exciting and innovative projects she will bring to the company,” Killoran said. “With her impressive track record championing underrepresented voices and stories, Elsie is an exceptional addition to our leadership team.”
