It has also recently refurbished and reopened six stores in Gunwharf Quays, Gloucester Quays, Bath, York, Newquay and Clark's Village.

Steve Grocutt, founder of The Cornish Bakery, said: “We have found the right location in Cornwall’s capital city and trading here has already far exceeded our wildest expectations.

“We’re now well into the process for our upcoming openings in some of UK’s most prominent market towns and cities.

"Bakery is most definitely the new coffee shop, and we’re continuing to bring our unique experience to places and spaces all over the country," he added.

Rivals Wenzel's, Patisserie Valerie, Greggs and Dunkin' Donuts are all increasing their footprint across the UK, as revealed by The Sun.

Dunkin' Donuts, a fast-food and bakery chain from the US, is hoping to double its existing 30 stores around the UK over the next two years.
