How Mercury in Retrograde is going to affect your relationships

When Mercury moves into retrograde it can herald a bumpy ride for your relationships, so get ready to hold on tight.

Mercury is the planet of expression, personal connections, travel and technology. At times when it appears to go backwards in the galaxy, those areas of our lives can take a reverse turn too.

According to the experts, this isn’t the best time to get married, or start dating someone new, but it could offer an opportunity to revisit old partnerships.

We’re currently right in the middle of a Mercury retrograde cycle which began on May 10 and runs through to June 3, spanning Taurus and Gemini, although it affects the horoscopes of all signs of the zodiac.

The smallest planet in our solar system, Mercury's backwards motion is actually an optical illusion – it only looks that way from Earth because of the difference in their orbits.

But the retrograde effect has a strong influence, according to astrologers. They say it’s a period that’s often fraught with misunderstandings, disagreements and breakdowns – for humans as well as technology.

Its fallout often affects honest communication with your nearest and dearest, as well as work colleagues, so it’s best to put some aspects of life temporarily on hold and be extra vigilant about others.

Be really clear when expressing yourself in the workplace and leave important financial conversations for a later date.

For those already in a longstanding partnership, try not to fight over silly misunderstandings – they are bound to happen. The good news is that if you fall out or even break up now, you’ll probably kiss and make up as soon as Mercury is back on track. And that applies to old feuds, which are easier to heal too.

If you’re booking a wedding date, experts say it would be a good idea to avoid the three or four times each year when Mercury is in retrograde – the next episode is expected between September 9 and October 1, 2022.

It's likely that things won’t go according to plan on the big day, and promises made are more likely to be broken, says Tarot.com.

Likewise, if you’re on the dating scene, it’s wise to postpone new meetings until Mercury is back in harmony with Earth again. There could be communication problems on the date itself, or you could end up getting involved with someone who isn’t who they initially seem to be.

Reflection is definitely on the cards, though and that could mean revisiting old relationships and even chasing up an old flame to rekindle lost love.
