Prince Harry and Meghan Markle won’t be spending Christmas with the queen or the royal family and, if a new report is to be believed, Prince William and Kate Middleton are “relieved” about it.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are skipping the royal familyChristmas
The Sussexes are currently taking a six-week break from their royal duties and were originally expected to be back at Queen Elizabeth’s Norfolk estate for the annual Christmas gathering. Before the rumor mill could run with the idea that Prince Harry and Markle were snubbing the queen in order to spend the holiday with Markle’s mother, the palace released a statement.
Buckingham Palace shared the details of their Christmas plans in a statement that noted: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month. Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland.”
As for the queen’s reaction to the news, the statement shared: “This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”
Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud was blamed
Is the feud between Prince Harry and Prince William part of the reason the Sussexes changed their Christmas plans? Given Prince Harry’s admission that things aren’t going well between him and Prince William, it seems logical that the family tension might be one reason for Prince Harry and Markle skipping the royal Christmas gathering.
When asked about a rumored feud during an interview for the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Harry shared: “Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under… inevitably, you know, stuff happens.”
He added: “But, look, we’re brothers. We’ll always be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and, as I know, he will always be there for me.”
Prince Harry shared that while they “don’t see each other as much as we used to,” he assured, “I love him dearly. The majority of stuff is created out of nothing. But as brothers, you have good days and you have bad days.”
Prince William and Middleton are reportedly “relieved”
Many royal fans have wondered how Prince William and Middleton feel about the Sussexes’ decision to skip the Christmas at Sandringham. According to a report from Closer Weekly, a friend of Prince William’s shared that the Cambridges are “relieved” — not because they don’t want to spend the time with Prince Harry and Markle, but because they believe the couple should take some time out of the spotlight.
The insider noted: “William and Kate are somewhat relieved that they won’t be at Sandringham. William does, however, feel that it’ll be strange not having his brother around.”
The Sussexes’ plans aren’t that out of the ordinary, given that Prince William and Middleton have missed the Sandringham Christmas in the past to spend the holiday with Middleton’s family.
