The post was titled: "I saved £450 a year by getting a water meter". The MSE reader, named Gloria, made the incredible saving after reading the guide on cutting water bills.
She told the website: "I took your advice on having a water meter installed in April this year after our bill for 2023/24 came in at a whopping £799.
"I've just had my half-yearly bill and, based on that estimate, our annual bill should be around the £350 mark [saving £449/year].
"I've done absolutely nothing different as regards water consumption. Many thanks once again."
Since the 90s, all new homes have been fitted with water meters to help Brits manage their usage at home. If your house doesn't have a meter, you can request one for free.

The beauty of having a water meter is that you pay for what you use, rather than it be an estimate.
Water bills can vary across parts of the UK, as in Scotland and Northern Ireland they're based on council tax bands and included in a "combined service charge".
According to MSE, it's worth getting a meter if there are more bedrooms than people in your home. How much you save is, of course, dependent on your household's usage and water company.
If you're not sure if having a water meter is for you, it's always worth trying it for a period then ditching it if need be. For more advice on saving money on your water bills, check out the MSE guide.
