I'm pining for my far-away girl who moved to New Zealand – can we be together?

DEAR DEIDRE: I SPEND evenings pining for my girlfriend who emigrated to New Zealand, while I live in the UK.

We went to school together and are both 20.

We dated two years ago but then she went Down Under with her family.

She’s got a job there now and doesn’t show any signs of coming back.

I ended the relationship a few weeks ago because we can’t be together properly.

But she was really upset and asked me to reconsider.

So now we are back to square one and texting every day and Skyping when we can.

I don’t know what to do.

DEIDRE SAYS: She is holding on to you – and perhaps to a bit of the UK.

But if there is no chance of you ever being properly together, then there seems little point in torturing yourselves.

You are both different people from the teenagers who got together three years ago.

Suggest you both try to be single again and see how it feels.

If after six months you are both still determined you want to be together, one of you had better start saving for an airfare to visit and then plan how your future will look.
