Getting a will is something Britons should do and the expert told them how they could save money on this.
Martin said: “Getting a will is so important; especially if you’ve assets, eg, a house, savings, or a business, and people or others you’d like to look after – die will-less and your affairs can be left in limbo for years.
“The gold standard, solicitor-drafted will can cost in excess of £150, yet November is ‘Will Aid’ – a scheme where over 500 solicitors across the UK, will draft you a will for free, in the hope you’ll make a donation of around £100, or £180 for couples.
“That’s split across nine charities they support including Action Aid, NSPCC and the British Red Cross.”
Although people cannot benefit from this for another couple of months, Martin explained bookings are being taken now so you must act fast.
He said: “It tends to get booked up quickly, so it’s worth booking now. Enter your postcode at the Will Aid website, or call 0300 0309 558 to find your nearest participating solicitor.
“You’ll then need to contact the solicitor to arrange an appointment – be sure to tell it you’re calling as part of the Will Aid scheme.
“You can donate through the Will Aid website before you go and take a print-out of the receipt with you to your appointment, or donate once you’re there.”
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, Martin told viewers about heritage sites across the country which will open for free this month.
Martin said: “Throughout September, many usually-closed or usually-charging buildings and heritage sites, including some National Trust, are open for free.
“In England, this begins today until Sunday 22 September, as part of Heritage Open Days.
“In Scotland it’s Doors Open Days, on weekends until Sunday 29 September and in Wales it’s Open Doors Days from now until Monday 30 September.”
He listed examples of places now free to visit including Cragside, National Trust, in Northumberland, Gladstone Pottery Museum in Stoke-on-Trent, Alloa Tower in Clackmannanshire, and Dylan Thomas’ Boathouse in Laugharne.
Yesterday, the expert appeared on Good Morning Britain to tell viewers how they could get hundreds of pounds back when they pay their bills.
Martin talked about a Rewards Account by NatWest which gave savers two per cent cash back on their bills.
He said: “The stand out pick of NatWest/RBS’s accounts is the Reward Account, which for £2 per month fee you get two per cent cashback on household bills you pay from it via direct debit – energy, mobile, council tax, water etc.”
Speaking on the show, Martin also told viewers about the cash reward scheme savers could get by switching to the bank.
He said the bank account market is getting more competitive and NatWest are offering £150 to switch to their account.
