It’s been said that you can milk just about anything.
And with looming grocery shortages caused by the coronavirus pandemic‘s impact on the supply chain, people may become increasingly desperate for a new milk alternative — desperate enough, apparently, to milk a cucumber.
That’s what it’s come to for one woman, @BasicallyPerkfect, on TikTok. A clip of her demonstrating how to extract the creamy, white nectar from a cucumber has gone viral on the video sharing app.
Jokes aside, the trick actually helps to remove any bitter taste from the vegetable, she says. And, no, she doesn’t recommend collecting and drinking the gooey substance.
“Who here has ever milked a cucumber?” she asks.
The “master milker” from New Orleans explained to more than one million viewers so far on TikTok how it’s done.
“You cut the edge off the cucumber,” she says while holding the severed end piece in one hand and the rest of the cuke in the other. “And then you start rubbing it together in circular motions.”
While pressing the cut cucumber flesh back together and rubbing the ends against each other, a milky liquid begins seeping out. “You can see that white stuff coming out,” she says.
She claims the process will restore the cucumber’s flavor back to fresh days.
