Mother is left ‘speechless’ after receiving a ‘threatening’ letter from her new neighbour complaining about her ‘loud’ 16-month-old son

  • Neighbour said they would contact the agent if ‘non-stop’ stomping continued
  • Anonymous mother revealed how it is ‘impossible’ to make son sit still all day

A mother was left ‘speechless’ after mistaking a ‘welcome letter’ from a neighbour for a complaint over her 16-month-old son’s ‘non-stop stomping’ during the day.

The anonymous mother recently moved to Newhaven in Edinburgh with her husband and son after she was furloughed from her hospitality position and her partner was made redundant.

However, shortly after relocating, the hotel office manager received a letter which she believed to be ‘a wee welcome letter’ from her new neighbours.

However, the couple were left horrified after the letter turned out to be a complaint from the neighbours below who threatened to call the agent if her 16-month-old continued to ‘run around’.

The letter read: ‘If you continue allowing the child to run non-stop day/night the agent will be contacted. It’s very loud and that’s surely obvious on flooring – as it the stomping!

‘There’s two apartments below – please have some respect it’s not fair especially after 12-hour shifts.’

The parent, who wished to remain anonymous, told Edinburgh Live that she moved to the new home to give her child a better life.

The family-of-three previously lived in an area where they had ‘sleepless nights caused by neighbours partying, arguing and basically showing anti-social behaviour during the night.’

She described how the first week in the Newhaven apartments was like a ‘tropical’ paradise, with her son able to play outdoors for most of the day due to the warm weather.

When she spotted the letter she said she was ‘expecting a wee welcome letter’ because most people have been ‘united’ in these tough times.

However, now the mother said she wants to share her response to the letter publicly to encourage everyone to be kinder to each over.

In a letter penned to the neighbours, she wrote: ‘Despite being a mother or even a woman all you need is to be a human to understand that the fact it’s very hard for me as a mother of a 16-month-old boy and wife to keep everyone positive and happy while I try to wash, clean, cook and unpack constantly.

‘It’s almost impossible to not allow a 16-month-old boy to be running while he has no friends to play with, no soft play to entertain him and no nursery to be looked after and also he is a child and children need to play freely – now more so than ever!’
