A mother-of-seven tragically died from liver cancer 24 hours after marrying her long-term partner in front of friends and family in hospital.
Katrina Scott, 32, from Derby, who has children aged between 6 and 22, had always dreamed of marrying her partner of 10 years, Jay, 48 – and the couple finally exchanged vows in front of their loved ones on November 14.
But devastatingly, she lost her battle at the Royal Derby Hospital the following day, shortly after being told her cancer was terminal.
Now, the care worker’s friends and family are hoping to raise money for Christmas presents for her children – Callum, 13, Levi, nine, Tyler, 11, twins Kaitlin-Rose and Poppy-Mae, six and Lillie-Rose, seven, and step-daughter, Ayesha, 22.
‘She had always wanted to marry me but we never had the time or money to do it, Jay told Derbyshire Live. ‘My eldest daughter, Katrina’s step-daughter Ayesha, set up a Just Giving page for our wedding.’

He added: ‘Our wedding was planned for November 25 but we had to move it because the doctors said she wouldn’t make it.
‘She fought until that day and died 24 hours later. But I’ve got pictures of her smiling, that’s the main thing.’
In August, Katrina had been for a routine check up and grew concerned when she didn’t receive the results back.
Following a liver biopsy in September, the mother-of-seven’s worst nightmares were confirmed when she was told she had stage four liver cancer.

It had spread to the lungs and bile duct and after spending two months in hospital, she sadly lost her fight.
‘The day after we got married I had a funny feeling,’ Jay said, speaking to the publication. ‘I saw a rainbow from my house to the hospital and I thought, that’s it.’
He added: ‘I went down to the hospital, to the Macmillan unit, and I knew it as soon as I looked into her eyes. It was so quick.’
The builder and landscaper told how having to pick the children up from school and break the devastating news to them was the ‘hardest walk’ of his life.
Now, Jay is planning his wife’s wedding with the help of a Just Giving Page in the hope of giving her the send off she deserves.
‘She was in so much pain. I want her to have the best send off,’ he said. ‘Being a dad is a job I’m proud of. It’s going to be hard but people’s kindness and thoughts make a bad day a little bit better.’
Meanwhile, family friend Aimee Smith, 28, from Mackworth, is collecting Christmas presents for her seven children via her Facebook page.
