‘It’s called human decency.’

The fuming mother who called out the passengers for refusing to give up their seats went viral on TikTok, but didn’t gain the response she hoped for.

Nearly 2,000 people commented with the majority saying that children should give up their seats for adults, who have paid full price.

One user said: ‘It’s actually common courtesy and good manners for a child to give up their seat for an older person, well it was when I was a child.’

While another exclaimed: ‘Kids don’t take priority seats. Disabled people, pregnant women, the elderly, or babies in arms.’

And a third pointed out: ‘Adults pay full fair for that reason!’

However, a handful of people were sympathetic to the London mother and made suggestions as to why she would want her child to have a seat.

One user explained: ‘I’m 22 and have a hidden disability, some woman stared me down one time and I told her no.’

Another suggested: ‘Maybe they’re a priority too, not every priority is visible.’

More people commented explaining how they were brought up to give up their seats for elderly passengers

Yet, the majority of people were quick to express how they were brought up to respect their elders and that they have taught their children to give up their seats.

One woman said: ‘I’m heavily pregnant and I’d watch a child sit on the floor to, my kids move for an elderly person, it’s called respect.’

A second person said: ‘Tbh I’d be fuming if I got on a busy train after a long day at and a small child was taking up a seat.’

A third explained: ‘We give seats to the elderly not the young.’

Another person asked: ‘I’m confused – since when does a child need a priority seat?’

And something else said: ‘Comments have restored my faith in humanity! I’ve NEVER understand why adults give up their seats for children.’

To which Kelly responded: ‘Restored your faith in humanity. Wow.’
