It’s been more than half a decade since the idea of glass skin first made its way into our beauty vocabularies, and the Korean skincare trend shows absolutely no sign of going anywhere.
Identified by its dewy, ultra-hydrated glow and smooth, flawless finish, glass skin is the ultimate beauty trend for those wanting a radiant summer complexion all year round.
Although it’s been on our radar for many years now, it seems many people are still struggling to perfect a regime that leaves them with the radiant look we’ve all been coveting, which is why this super simple, easy-to-follow guide has gone viral on TikTok.
The video, which was shared by usedNotCarezy, has racked up more than three million views and counting, with commenters thanking her for sharing the products they used.
One fan wrote: “I've been WAITING for someone to do a video on korean skincare and actually post the products THANK YOU,” whilst another added: “Babes this is what I needed thank you.”
In the video, NotCarezy, whose real name is Carezy Ramirez, shared the five products she uses as part of her glass skin routine, with the hero product being a £25 essence…made from snail secretion.
To start with, Carezy uses the COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser, £6.03 here (was £9), to prepare her skin, smoothing the lightweight cleanser into her skin to remove any traces of makeup, dirt and SPF.
The products low pH is what makes the product perfect for a glass skin routine, as it respects the natural 5-6 level of pH your skin requires. This makes it easier for the botanical ingredients to cleanse your skin, without stripping away any of your natural oils, keeping it hydrated and avoiding dryness.
It also contains mild acids, which encourage your skin to appear supple and dewy, giving your skin the perfect glowy foundation for the rest of your glass skin routine.
The next step in Carezy’s routine is to add COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence, £25 here (was £28), which is one of the most important – if not controversial – steps in the Korean-inspired beauty routine.
Although the thought of rubbing snail secretion onto your skin might not sound pleasant, it’s long been acknowledged that it’s one of the most important parts of the glass skin routine, with plenty of skincare fanatics desperately searching for a product containing the unusual ingredient.
The COSRX Power Essence is made up of 96% skin-friendly snail secretion filtrate, which helps to repair damaged skin, improve elasticity and boost your hydration levels to leave your skin feeling nourished and revitalised.
Still not convinced? COSRX representative, Julia Marinkovich explained: "A tried and tested ingredient in the K-Beauty world, snail mucin has huge benefits. Snail mucin is an excretion from snails, and is naturally made up of properties like glycoproteins, hyaluronic acid and glycolic acid, all of which have long-documented benefits for the skin.
"Thanks to the hyaluronic acid in the mucin, it has moisturising properties that support the skin barrier and help lock in moisture. The glycolic acid helps to stimulate collagen production that not only helps diminish fine lines and wrinkles, but it also helps to give your complexion a radiant, youthful glow. It also contains zinc which is anti-inflammatory and allantoin which soothes irritation. So, all in all, you can expect skin to be softer, more moisturised and glowing with consistent use of snail mucin."
After using the Power Essence, Carezy finishes off her five step routine by the GOODAL Green Tangerine Vitamin C Dark Circle Eye Cream, £31.99 here, underneath her eyes, before massaging the Etude House Soon Jung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream, £13.51 here, into her skin. Finally she finishes off with the ABIB Rice Probiotics Overnight Mask Barrier Jelly, £23 here, before showing off her skin, which is glowy, dewy – and utterly glass-like.
