SIAN, 27,
Dating Past?
My last relationship ended nine months ago. We were together for four-and-a-half years.
At first, I was heartbroken. But now I feel like I’ve got to know myself. I went on holiday for the first time alone and I bought my own flat.
I’ve been on a few dates with guys I met on apps, but I don’t like the way you judge each other on looks.
My parents aren’t putting any pressure on me to settle down — yet. They’ve already got a grandchild to dote on!
Pre-Date Nerves?
I was nervous because I haven’t dated much at all, let alone been on a blind date, but I knew it would be good fun — I can talk for England when meeting someone new.
First Impressions?
Vital statistics
Single for nine months.
Current Role
Media officer at a university.
Would Like To Meet
Someone who’s passionate about their job, but who puts family first. I’d like him to be taller than me and keep fit.
Mark is more than 6 ft tall and clearly looks after himself. When I arrived for our lunch, at a restaurant called Aster in Central London, he was already at the table waiting for me.
I could tell he was nervous because he was talking rather quickly. I thought it was really sweet and he soon relaxed. I knew straight away we’d have fun.
Easy To Talk To?
Mark has a cool job and I couldn’t resist asking to see a picture of him in his uniform.
We got on so well we decided to go for drinks afterwards — we ended up going to three different bars and spent eight hours together. I even persuaded Mark to try flavoured gin.
Embarrassing Moments?
I don’t think there were any. But we chatted for so long at the station that Mark missed his train home.
Did Sparks Fly?
I had a friend on standby for drinks just in case it was a disaster, but Mark was good company. We’ve texted since, but for me it’s only as friends.
Did You Kiss?
I kissed him on the cheek and threw my arms around him for a cuddle at the end of the date. I’d had a few wines by this point.
Sian’s verdict: 8/10
Liked: It was a really easy and relaxed date.
Regrets: None.
Coffee or cab? Coffee.
What do you think he thought of you?
He did tell me I looked like the actress Margot Robbie. If that’s not a compliment, then I don’t know what is.
Would your family like him?
Anyone would like Mark, he’s really funny. At one point I said: ‘I like your company.’ He replied: ‘I like my company, too.’ Which made me giggle.

Dating Past
I was in a relationship for most of my 20s — we’d even bought a house together — but we ended it last year when we realised we wanted different things.
I then dated a colleague for six months, but it was a case of right person, wrong timing.
My philosophy is that you can be attracted to anyone, but love is something you work at. My parents have been married for 33 years and I would love to have a relationship like theirs.
Pre-Date Nerves?
Yes — my mum was a little bit apprehensive, too. She knows I can be quite impulsive. As soon as Sian sat down, I started talking at 100 miles an hour.
First Impressions?
When Sian walked across the restaurant, I knew instantly we’d have a good time. She’s a good-looking woman. I was worried I’d be matched with someone I wasn’t attracted to — I didn’t think I’d be going on a date with someone who looked as good as Sian.

Would like to Meet
Someone kind. I’d like a relationship like my parents’
Easy To Talk To?
Our lunch date sailed by. We even talked about past relationships, discovering that 2019 was a bad year for both of us. Sian ordered us prosecco and, because we were having such a good time, we had three courses — she even let me finish her chicken main course.
Embarrassing Moments?
I ordered steak tartare to start, but I’d never had it before. Sian gently pointed out it was raw meat. I was a bit shocked, but it was actually delicious.
Did Sparks Fly?
I would say so! Any guy would fancy Sian.
Did You Kiss?
No, but she gave me a friendly hug and a peck on the cheek when we said goodbye.
Mark’s verdict: 8/10
Liked: Everything.
Regrets: None.
Coffee or cab? Gin, thanks to Sian!
What do you think she thought of you?
I’m not sure, although I know she thinks I’m funny. On our way to the train station we walked past a busker singing a James Blunt song and both of us joined in. Everyone looked at us as though we were a pair of weirdos! But it was a memorable end to our date. We met at 12.30pm and parted just after 8pm.
Would your family like her?
They would 100 per cent love Sian.
