A woman in a 17-year age gap relationship has revealed how strangers often mistake her husband for her son.
Serena Fill, 47, from New Jersey, has been married to Australian, Dan Krochmal, 30, for five years, but the couple’s loving relationship has come at a price as they often face criticism because of their age gap.
The loved up couple often receive comments from strangers, mistaking Serena for Dan’s mom.
Despite being trolled online for the wide age gap in their relationship, the happy couple claims they are stronger than ever.

Serena says: ‘To us, age is just a number when it comes to love.
‘Dan is my soulmate and it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.’
Serena met Dan, a musician, in November 2014 while he was touring the US, performing at music gigs.
She said: ‘We met in New York and I couldn’t take my eyes off him.
‘He was dreamy and his soulful voice was mesmerizing.
‘Dan was clearly decades younger than me, but I found him so attractive.’
That night, Serena discovered Dan was 22, making him nearly 20 years her junior as Serena was about to turn 40.
Serena said: ‘When Dan found out my age, he didn’t care. We flirted all night. It was a thrill.’
The next day, Serena found Dan on Facebook and messaged him, offering to show him around the city.
The pair met up and immediately felt a connection as sparks flew between them.
Serena said: ‘We spent the day together in New York and Dan even serenaded me with his guitar in Central Park.
‘It was so romantic, later that evening we kissed. We spent the next few days together.
‘From the start we both knew it was a fling, after all, he lived on the other side of the world.’
Later that week, Dan continued his tour and the couple said their goodbyes.
But fate brought them back together again the following month.
Serena said: ‘I was attending my best friend’s wedding in Los Angeles, when Dan called to say he’d missed his connecting flight home to Australia and was in the city.
‘I was so excited and invited him to the hotel I was staying in.
‘Seeing him again was magical. It was like I’d known him all my life.’
Sadly, the next day, Dan returned to Australia but the couple stayed in touch and continued to speak every day, despite the distance between them.
‘I’d never felt this way before about any man. I missed him so much.
‘Meanwhile, my friends were trying to set me up on dates. I went for dinner with one man, but all I could think about was Dan.’
Serena wanted nothing else but to be with Dan, but knew the two couldn’t be together as they lived in completely different places.
But as fate would have it, Dan dropped a bombshell on Serena in 2015 and told her he’d be moving to the US.
Serena revealed that their families were ‘shocked’ but ‘happy’ for the lovebirds, meanwhile, Serena’s friend referred to her as a ‘cougar’ and called Dan her ‘toy boy’
And while Serena’s friends were calling her cougar, she didn’t mind it and that she even liked the idea of being with a man nearly 20 years her junior
‘I was so excited. I couldn’t wait to see him,’ Serena said.
Two months later, in May, after longing to be with one another, Serena and Dan were finally reunited.
The couple was ecstatic they were finally together, but knew they had to break the shocking news of their age gap relationship to their families.
‘We told our families and they were shocked at first, but they were happy for us.
‘My friends on the other hand, grilled Dan when they met him.
‘Because he was so young, they asked what his intentions were.
‘One was judgmental and thought he was using me, but after a while, they could see Dan loved me.’
In time, Serena’s friends even gave the couple their very own nicknames that pointed right to their unique relationship.
They began calling Serena a ‘cougar’ and dubbed Dan her ‘toy boy.’
And while Serena’s friends were calling her cougar, she didn’t mind it and noted that she even liked the idea of being with a man nearly 20 years her junior.
Serena said: ‘I felt honored. I was proud to be with a younger man.
‘Now I call myself the ”queen of cougars”. Me and Dan laugh about it.’
After the two were married, they decided to combine business with pleasure and Serena became Dan’s manager
Despite cruel comments from trolls, Serena and Dan are focusing on each other and are thankful every day to have met each other
In December 2016, the couple decided to take their relationship to the next level and the two soon got married at City Hall.
After the two were married, they decided to combine business with pleasure and Serena became Dan’s manager.
But soon, strangers began to make comments, which hurt the lovebirds.
Serena explained: ‘Once, I commented on an age gap post on Facebook and people accused Dan of being a gold-digger, which was hurtful.
‘Then, whenever Dan played a show, people would ask me if I was his mom.
‘Young women would hit on Dan and ask me if my son was single.
‘At first it was upsetting, and I’d tell them I was his wife.
‘But I soon began to laugh it off.’
Serena added: ‘Dan looks fantastic and gets asked for ID everywhere which is funny.’
‘Whenever we went shopping or out for dinner, people constantly thought he was my son too,’ she continued.
‘I knew I was almost 20 years older than him, so I could be mistaken for his mom. It made sense.’
Despite cruel comments from trolls, Serena and Dan are focusing on each other and are thankful every day to have met each other.
‘It took me about 40 years to finally find my husband, but he was well worth the wait.’
