JUST forget grime, Dance Monkey or Billie Eilish…
Because 2019 was truly characterised by two things, according to Tom Walker.
He said: “People seem to like a chubby Scottish man at the moment, happy days for me and Lewis Capaldi!”
The Scot might have his tongue in his cheek, but there’s no denying men with a little padding playing guitar ruled the 2019 charts.
Tom told me: “I’m buzzing for Lewis, he’s such a lovely lad.
“He got a No1 in the US, most artists can only dream of that, and he worked solidly for it.”
People sometimes get Tom and Lewis mixed up, although Lewis does claim to have the best nipples in pop.

Tom isn’t going to argue with that: “My nipples aren’t great – they are inny nipples.”
In all seriousness, it’s been an incredible 12 months for Tom, who nabbed the Break-through BRIT Award and a No1 album in the shape of What A Time To Be Alive.
Reflecting on 2019, he said: “I don’t know where the year has gone. The album going to No1 was amazing. The awards and touring, it’s hard to take it all in.
“I’m taking time off at Christmas because I’ve been pushing forward without having time to think.
“I’ll be at my fiancée’s house for the first time, then it’s back to my mum and dad and to see my gran in Scotland.
“I only spent 25 days in my own bed this year, so it’s well overdue.”

Tom will also finally be taking off his signature beanie hat: “I have an obsession. If I take it off, nobody has a clue who I am.”
Tom has yet to launch his own range of hats but that doesn’t mean the merchandise offers aren’t rolling in.
He added: “I teamed up with a company who created my own hot sauce recently.
“Plus I’ve got my own Tom Walker socks, and there is even a Tom Walker electric scooter.”
Make the most of him because Tom’s deluxe version of his album is a little farewell gift.
He explained: “I’m essentially going away for a year now.
“It’s something to savour while I write the next album.
“There will be no tours, just a few festival dates.”
See you next summer!
