Danniella Westbrook swipes at EastEnders as she hints its the end of soap

Former EastEnders star Danniella Westbrook has taken a subtle swipe at the BBC soap.

It was recently announced that ITV soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street would be seeing a slight change in their scheduling – which Danniella reckons will be the end of EastEnders.

Taking to Twitter to share her thoughts, Danniella said: "Can you imagine when they move Emmerdale to 7:30pm how much the ratings on other channels will drop through the floor… Could be the End for Enders."

Around the same time, she also tweeted to state that Meena's acting on Emmerdale is "brilliant", writing: "This is written so well. Can you even imagine the awards this is gonna win?"

Danniella certainly seems to be a big fan of the ITV soap as she praised the writing, but it looks like she believes in the battle of the soaps, ITV could come out on top.

Her comments come shortly after it was revealed that Kim Medcalf would be taking on the returning role of Sam Mitchell on EastEnders, once played by Danniella herself.

Upon the announcement, Danniella wrote on Twitter: "Wishing Kim the best of look at EastEnders, yet again this poor woman has to recreate a Samantha Mitchell as close to my last two recent comebacks on the Square go smash it darling… x.

"Oh but not to @bbceastenders my legal team will be in touch."

The news that Kim will be taking on the role as Samantha Mitchell on the soap comes shortly after bosses planned for their next steps on Albert Square.

EastEnders has lost a number of its top stars in the past year including Maisie Smith, Danny Dyer, Jake Wood and Laila Morse, to name a few.

Adam Woodyatt is still yet to confirm his return after his exit in January 2021.

Bosses are still working on ways to up the numbers, which could become more challenging following the news of Emmerdale and Coronation Street's schedule shake-up.

The ITV soaps will be pushed back by half an hour as the channel expands its news programme from 6:30pm until 7:30pm.

This means Emmerdale will air from 7:30pm each weeknight while Coronation Street will switch to three hour-long episodes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm.
