Devastated Shaun Ryder convinced hell see tragic brothers spirit one day

Shaun Ryder is convinced his tragic brother and bandmate Paul will live forever as “energy”.

The devastated Happy Mondays frontman – who says he was haunted by two ghosts weeks before his sibling’s death – expects to see Paul’s spirit one day.

Shaun, who turns 60 later this month, said: “I’m sure if our kid was buzzing about, he’d f*****g let me know.

“Energy – it’s always here. It can’t be f***g destroyed, it’s always there.

“I’ve not heard from our kid, but I will let people know if I do.

“I’m sure quantum physics is going to explain a lot more to us in the years to come about energy and everything else.”

In his only interview after bassist Paul’s funeral on Thursday (August 4) Shaun also revealed he was so shattered by grief he couldn’t bear to give a eulogy.

Speaking from his home in Manchester, he said: “This time I was keeping my gob shut.

“I just think it was better for me to sit down and listen.”

Paul was found dead in his bed aged 58 at 6am on July 15 by their mum Linda at her home in Manchester, hours before the band was due to play the Kubix Festival in Sunderland.

Shaun helped carry Paul’s wooden coffin – decorated in yellow, purple, pink and blue flowers – and taken to the ceremony in a black Mercedes hearse.

Peter Hook, 66, bassist and co-founder of New Order and Joy Division was also among the celebrity mourners at the church service conducted by Father Paul Smith, which was followed by a committal at Agecroft Crematorium in Salford.

Shaun, who believes we never really die, said his last two ghost sightings were on the same night in June when he stayed in the same room where Queen Victoria slept at her beloved home of Osborne on the Isle of Wight, which is now an English Heritage site.

The Mondays stayed at the estate when they played the Isle of Wight festival on June 18 – which turned out to be Paul’s last gig.

Shaun said: “I was in Queen Victoria’s bedroom and I said to our road manager the next day I felt a geezer in there with a big moustache and some sort of military uniform on, and I could see this grey, white-haired lady.”

He added Paul didn’t leave a will as he thought would “live forever” – like Shaun.

The family are still waiting for the results of an autopsy but revealed for the first time the coroner has reported “Paul passed away as a result of Ischaemic heart disease and diabetes”.
