King Charles presented with crown cake in Germany
King Charles III’s coronation is taking place in just a few weeks on May 6, 2023, and the following day, May 7, an enormous “special Coronation Concert” is being held to celebrate the occasion. The line-up for the live music spectacle is full of incredible stars, and the latest update claims the legendary Hollywood singer and actress Bette Midler will be performing some of her biggest hits to celebrate the King’s celebration.
The Sun reported Midler will be joining the line-up, which currently boasts the likes of Sir Elton John, former One Direction star Harry Styles, and Adele.
A source told the publication: “Landing a Hollywood star like Bette is a real coup and she will add real old school glamour to the line-up. Bette is delighted to be taking part, she thinks it’s an honour.” (sic)
The source went on: “Organisers are pulling out all the stops to give people a real spectacle, there’ll be something for everyone.”
The Royals have reportedly had difficulty getting a number of major names to sign up for King Charles’s coronation concert, which is taking place at Windsor Castle on Sunday.
The source went on: “Although booking performers hasn’t been easy, due to busy schedules and the last minute nature of the gig, bosses are quietly confident that a very special event is coming together.” (sic)
The American star, who is 77-years-old, will apparently be flying to the UK, especially for the live coronation performance.
The concert will be held in front of an estimated 10,000 people, as well as the King and Camilla, the Queen Consort.
Performers on Windsor Castle’s East Lawn will also be accompanied by a 74-piece orchestra, made up of the Massed Bands of the Household Division and the Countess of Wessex’s String Orchestra.
This is not the first time Midler has performed in front of royalty during her career.
The Disney star has performed at the Royal Variety Performance twice during her time. The first time was in 2009, with her return coming five years later in 2014.
Midler met Queen Elizabeth II after the performance and later spoke about the surreal experience of meeting the British monarch.
She said: “When I was a kid I used to go to the public library I remember I was looking in the magazine and I saw a picture of a beautiful young girl kneeling down and getting a crown. These black and white pictures made a big impression on me, I never recovered from it.”
Midler added that, although she had been “a fan of her for years” she was “nervous”.
The coronation proper on Saturday, May 6, will be attended by guests “hand-picked” by King Charles and Camilla.
These are reportedly people who have helped out their local communities. As well as 400 young people from major groups such as The Scouts, Girl Guides and St John’s Ambulance.
A further 1,150 people have been invited to the ceremony, as well, according to BBC.
