Lupita Nyong’o Turns Into Songwriter for Her Children’s Book Accompaniment

Along with the animated lyric video for ‘Sulwe’s Song’, the ’12 Years a Slave’ actress reveals that she has teamed up with K’Naan on the track she described as ‘a little melody to keep in your heart.’

AceShowbiz -Actress-turned-author Lupita Nyong’o has teamed up with musician K’naan to write a song to accompany her new children’s book.

The “12 Years a Slave” star used her own childhood struggle with her dark skin as inspiration for “Sulwe”, which tackles the issue of acceptance among kids of colour, and now she has penned a tune to go along with the story.

“SECRET’S OUT: I wrote a song!!” she posts on Instagram, alongside the animated lyric video for the track.

“It is an ode to #Sulwe and a little melody to keep in your heart any time you need a reminder that the key to unlocking your purpose and value in this life is inside you (yes, you!).”

Lupita also gave a shout out to her collaborators on “Sulwe’s Song”, adding, “Endless gratitude to my song co-writers @Knaanstagram and #SteveMcewen!”

The picture book was released last month (October 2019) and was just named the Best Children’s Book of 2019 for readers aged three to five by online retailer Amazon.
