Janet Devlin revealed she wouldn’t leave the house while she was on The X Factor because of the severe abuse she received.
The singer chatted exclusively to the Daily Star in a Facebook Live tell-all where she revealed the details about the abuse she received while on the ITV signing competition.
Janet, now 27, said: “It was just everything like you’re talentless, you suck, you can’t sing, you’re ugly. Ginger was a popular one, everybody loved calling me a ginger c***."
“It was just dumb insults, but I even had someone swing for me in a bar, I had a woman go to punch me.”
The songwriter explained that being on X Factor gave her an excuse not to leave her house because she "was being so bullied in public", to the point where people would scream abuse at her in bars and on the street.
Talking about the abuse she receives now, the 27-year-old star explained the approach she takes and said: "I tend to only respond to mean comments if I think they funny, or if I think I can say something funny back."
She added: “I never really like to pay much heat to mean comments, unless I’m doing it for Youtube where I’ll do a mean comments Youtube video and then it kind of helps because when I get mean comments I get excited because I’m like ‘Oh my god this could be content."
Janet came fifth in series eight of The X Factor and said she "only has good things to say about going on the show" because what she wanted from it is what she got.
She credits the show for giving her a “very lovely loyal fan base” which is all she’d hoped for.
Since leaving X Factor, Janet has launched her successful solo singing career, toured the UK, become a popular TikTok sensation, and even become an author of her own book, My Confessional.
Her latest UK and Ireland tour – It’s Not That Deep begins this Wednesday (April 13) in Brighton and tickets are available at here.
