A Place in the Sun's Jean Johansson gives up as couple rip 'claustrophobic and clinical' property to shreds

A PLACE in the Sun's Jean Johansson gave up as a couple ripped her "claustrophobic and clinical" property to shreds.

In Thursday's instalment of the Channel 4 show, the TV presenter, 39, was trying to find couple Laura and Nick's dream home in Estepona, Spain.

The pair told the expert that they were looking for a property under £160,000, but were willing to part ways with an extra £10,000.

They also made it clear that they needed a minimum of two bedrooms, space on ground floor for their pooch Poppy, a garden and for it to be 30 minutes from the beach.

Jean picked out five properties to show the pair and it got off to a good start.

Property manager Laura and chef Nick liked the first property, but it wasn't perfect.

Although they liked the surrounding area of Jean's second choice, the apartment didn't tick all of their boxes.

Nick wasn't a fan of the £168,000 town house's kitchen, which had recently just been refurbished.

He said: "For me, I think it's a little too compact and there's not enough space.

"It just has a little bit of a clinical feel."

Jean replied: "Well, you're a chef and you want your kitchen to be inviting as it's the place where you make the magic, isn't it?"

He called the space "claustrophobic" and said that it wasn't for him.

After their viewing Nick realised that the town house was "too stylish and trendy" for him.

The pair did say they wanted a "new" and "modern" home, so Jean asked if they had changed their minds.

Nick said: "Now I have seen a home done up to this standard I have realised that it is just too done up.

"So maybe we need a place that we can put our personalities into rather than have a place which is completely done up already."

Although they were fans of the first property, the happy couple ended up going for the fifth and final one.

They put in an offer of £160,000, which was rejected and after a bit of negotiation they finally sealed the deal with £170,000.
