Alex Karev Has Left Grey’s Anatomy and Isn’t Getting a “Send-Off” Episode

Grey’s Anatomy fans are going want to grab a box of tissues for this one. Original cast member Justin Chambers, who has portrayed Alex Karev for all sixteen seasons to date, has reportedly left Grey’s Anatomy.

Per Deadline, “He was last seen in Grey’s Anatomy 350th episode, which aired November 14, and I hear that was likely his last episode on the show for the foreseeable future.”

The actor released a statement to Deadline that said, “There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years.” He continued, “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”

Chambers’ emotional statement continued, “As I move on from Grey’s Anatomy, I want to thank the ABC family, Shonda Rimes, original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens, and the rest of the amazing cast and crew, both past and present, and, of course, the fans for an extraordinary ride.”

Alex Karev has been a staple on Grey’s Anatomy since the very beginning, and it’s hard to imagine the show without him. Plus, without a “send-off” episode for the character, viewers are bound to feel the sudden loss. Goodbye Justin Chambers, you will most definitely be missed!
