Ann Widdecombe labelled  the segment on Jeremy Vine on 5 an “absolute flop.” Ms Widdecombe was not entertained by an audio clip that host Jeremy Vine had hoped would sound like several different phrases depending on which one listeners read at the same time on a cardboard sign. Mr Vine held up a large sign to the panel to show the different interpretations some football fans had come up with when listening to the chant ‘that is embarrassing.”

The board had a number of different phrases including ‘Bart Simpson bouncing,’ ‘baptism piracy,’ and ‘lobsters in motion.’

Each supposedly would make the chant sound different when read at the same time as hearing it.

Ann Widdecombe was not entertained by the clip, however.

When hearing the chant she said the audio did not sound like any of the other phrases on the board Mr Vine held up.

“Oh rot! It’s ‘that is embarrassing’” she said.

Co-presenter Storm Huntley pointed out: “Ann didn’t ever once look at the board to read what was on the board.

“If you read what’s on the board, you can then hear it.”

“’Lactates in pharmacy,’” said Ms Widdecombe, reading one of the phrases. “What rubbish, honestly.”

Jeremy Vine said: “I could convince myself it was ‘baptism piracy.’

“I was beginning to think maybe, but it’s ‘that is embarrassing.’”

He added: “This is really embarrassing.

“It didn’t work at all.”

Ann Widdecombe went further, saying:

“It is an absolute flop.”

“It is an absolute flop,” Jeremy Vine agreed.

“Don’t worry,” he joked. “We’ll try again tomorrow with something else.”
