I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! hosts Ant and Dec sparked a social media frenzy with ITV viewers on Tuesday night as they called out Boris Johnson following reports of breaking lockdown rules last Christmas. As the hosts revealed the campmates had a new leader in the camp, they took their chance to make an obvious jibe at Boris Johnson, who has been under the firing line as rumours surfaced he and other cabinet members broke lockdown regulations last December for a Christmas party.
Teeing up the jibe, Dec began: “It has all changed in camp now as yesterday the celebs chose a new leader by the gift of a secret vote.”
Ant continued: “Which mean’s David (Ginola’s) reign is over, but they weren’t celebrating, they didn’t have a party.
“They categorically deny any suggestions that they had a party and this ‘fictional’ party, and it definitely didn’t involve cheese and wine or a secret Santa…”
Dec cheekily shouted down the camera: “Evening Prime Minster… for now!”

Viewers of the ITV show took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the comments made by the hosts and caused a stir between users.
@e_enzo_ wrote: “Moment like these are why Ant and Dec clean up every year at the awards, the best, and it isn’t even close.”
@Theresa23238380 commented: “That should be on headline news, or even in question time tomorrow, it will make more of an impact thank any opposition, thanks to both of you for making me laugh so much. “
@MelaniePritcha1 added: “A lot more oomph to Dec’s delivery of that line than usual, genuine anger behind it me thinks. Well, done, lads, point very well made.” (sic)
However, some viewers weren’t impressed with the comments with @Swinbar commenting: “Keep politics out of it please, we don’t watch the show for that.”
Piers Morgan also got involved with the drama on Twitter as he claimed: “Ant and Dec speak for the nation about our lying Prime Minister.”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other Downing Street members have repeatedly denied that a Christmas party took place during lockdown last year and that all guidance was followed.
At the time in question, the country was under strict Covid guidelines amid another wave of COVID-19.
The claims came after a video emerged showing senior staffers joking on camera about an event involving “cheese and wine” and “definitely no social distancing”.
The footage was reportedly filmed as part of preparations for televised briefings by Stratton, a plan which was subsequently abandoned.
The party at the centre of the row is reported to have taken place on Friday, December 18, 2020.
Elsewhere on Tuesday’s show, the celebs decided to pick who would be taking on the trial Grim Grinder by pulling a name out of the bucket.
Naughty Boy passed at the chance to take part in the trial as he had already done the challenge that day and wanted to “enjoy” the Christmas decorations.
The rest of the campmates all put their snoods into a bucket which Naughty then picked one out at random.
Frankie Bridge was chosen to do the trial and nervously made her way to the trial area where Ant and Dec were waiting for her.
Dec explained: “This is the Grim Grinder. This is a question and answer trial,” to which she joked: “Oh no! There was a reason I was a singer, guys!”
Frankie won seven out of a possible nine stars for camp and commented: I’ve had a long time to think about food in here, guys. Everyone’s going to be so jealous. It looks like I’ve been on a massive night out.”
At the end of the show, radio DJ Snoochie Shy was the third famous face eliminated.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! continues Wednesday night at 9pm on ITV.
