Bargain Hunt expert baffled as team admit they splashed out £99 on glass jars

Bargain Hunt fans were left stunned after one team shelled out £99 on three large glass jars to sell at their auction.

The BBC programme sees two teams – blue and red – compete to find the best items to take to auction.

On Monday's episode, the blue team members, Lisa and Roger were tasked with buying a decorate glass item and opted to buy mason jars for £99.

Astonished fans rushed to social media to mock the pair's purchase as they shared their fears they'd been ripped off.

One said: "8 glass jars. A profit there definitely," followed by a string of laughing face emojis.

Another wrote: "They are just tatty green glass vases. Or am I missing something?"

A third added: "Those jars are gonna be the panic buy. The only way I’d pay £30 for a glass jar is if it was full of Gin."

Auctioneer Caroline Hawley predicted the jars would sell for £30 to £50 in total but appeared to to be surprised after host Natasha Raskin Sharp told her the team shelled out £99 for them.

She responded by saying "right… ok", adding "ok well fingers crossed, never say never".

The jars eventually sold for £70 – making them a £29 loss.

Bargain Hunt host Eric Knowles was left gobsmacked earlier this week after one team managed to make history on the BBC series by not buying the required three items to sell at auction.

Geraldine and Washington only managed to secure two items despite scouring for items.

They told Eric that they "needed positive energy" ahead of the all-important auction.

But the host couldn’t help but inform them, saying: "I’ve got to say, you have made Bargain Hunt history by virtue of you only managing to buy two items."

However, Charles offered them a lifeline – the chance to purchase a bonus buy of an Art Deco clock purchased for £200.

Thankfully, the pair went ahead with the purchase of the clock and it sold for a whopping £380 at auction, leaving them with an overall profit of £130.
