Claudia Winkleman announces she’s quitting BBC Radio 2
BBC Radio 1Xtra DJ Ace, real name Ashley Asomani, has announced they are stepping down from the broadcaster. The resident DJ first joined the station back in 2002.
After 21 years on the broadcaster, DJ Ace has racked up an impressive 100,000 hours on air. In a statement released on Thursday afternoon, he’s announced he’s quit his R&B Saturday show.
His last show on BBC Radio1Xrtra will be next year on January 20. In a statement, the DJ had nothing but kind words to say about his time at the station.
On his Instagram, he addressed his followers as “family” before adding: “It’s time to share the news that I have taken the decision to leave BBC Radio 1xtra, in preparation for my new chapter in 2024.
“As someone that helped launch the station in 2002, I am so incredibly proud of everything we have achieved as a network. I’m so grateful to have been involved since day one.”

Paying tribute to his fans, DJ Ace highlighted that many listened to him turn from a young boy into a man over two decades.
He continued: “It’s because of you that I have been able to have this amazing experience for so long.
“Words can’t express how grateful I am for the memories, the opportunities and the colleagues that became family.”
Thanking people for sticking by him once again, the DJ told his followers to stand by to see what’s next in store for him.

The BBC has confirmed that DJ Chuckie will be replacing DJ Ace with his first show broadcasting on Saturday 24 February 2024.
During the period between DJ Ace leaving and DJ Chuckie taking over, the broadcaster has revealed that boyband No Guidnce will host the show for four weeks.
Ahead of joining Radio 1Xtra, DJ Chuckie said: “This is a very surreal and sensational moment for me.
“I’m very grateful to be a part of the 1Xtra team and I’m looking forward to creating some high-quality musical moments with the listeners.”
