Carol Vorderman says contestants on I’m A Celeb South Africa are ‘so competitive’
Alex Jones and Roman Kemp welcomed Carol Vorderman and Jordan Banjo onto The One Show to tease the upcoming I’m A Celebrity spin-off. The new series, hosted by Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, will see an initial nine famous faces head to South Africa for another shot at winning the crown. The former Countdown star explained how the new head-to-head trials were very different from those in the Australian version.
The hosts showed a preview clip of Carol calling the environment “extraordinary” as she took in her surroundings.
She was heard saying: “Hello Africa, I love you!” whilst standing on a very high platform at what seemed to be the top of a mountain.
The star admitted to feeling “scared” ahead of her return, although she admitted she “loved” her time on the original Australian series.
Her love of the experience is what inspired her to take part in the All Stars version.
Roman asked her how the South Africa series differed from the original I’m A Celeb.
She said: “It’s quite a different setup, isn’t it? The trials are brutal, quite honestly, brutal.
“And to get rid of people, if you like, it was all head-to-head trials, so competitive, and…”
She sighed as Jordan Banjo interjected: “We are all still friends though!”
Alex chimed in: “That is difficult though, isn’t it? Because usually it’s the public isn’t it?”
Roman asked: “So how does that go down? So you have got head-to-head trials against each other but you can also kind of vote each other out, right?”
Jordan then explained to Roman how voting people off “goes down quite awkwardly”.
He joked about going behind his co-star Carol’s back and being two-faced towards her as part of the game.

He said: “You could be sat there eating your rice and beans saying ‘I couldn’t survive in here without you Carol’.
“And then you walk off and behind her back you’re like ‘I’m going to absolutely smash her at that trial’.”
Carol admitted she loved watching the celebs get up to mischief, saying ahead of the show’s release: “I love it when people get the giggles.
“I like it when they are cheeky or bend the rules instead of being nicey nice.
“I loved it when Amir Khan ate all the strawberries! I love people being mischievous.”
Carol said she isn’t going to have a game plan before she arrives, adding: “Last time I did I’m A Celebrity, I tried to double bluff everyone.
“I told them I was frightened of things I wasn’t really, like heights! It did sort of semi-work.
“Afterwards I told them the story as I thought I would never be going again and I admitted what I was really frightened of so now they all know.”
