Chrissy Teigen is one of those famous people who seems to have the world on a string. She’s just as gorgeous as you’d expect a former supermodel to be.
Since her days on the cover of Sports Illustrated, she’s moved on to other career highlights that make it clear she’s not just a pretty face. She appeared on several TV shows, she’s published two cookbooks, and she’s wildly popular on social media. (She’s funny. She’s REALLY funny.)
As if that weren’t enough, Teigen is happily married to the talented musician John Legend, and they have two beautiful children. But life wasn’t always so sunny for the approachable star. She’s had some pretty dark days too. Fans are hoping that the worst is behind her.
Chrissy Teigen had hard times as a teen
Teigen told Vanity Fair in an interview that her parents met in Thailand, where her mother Pepper is from. After they married they moved to America, where Teagen was born.
Her childhood was pretty happy, but when she was 15 years old, Pepper went back to Thailand to care for her ailing parents. While she was there, both of her parents suddenly died within a three month period. In her grief, Pepper became seriously depressed. She stayed in Thailand and wouldn’t come out of her room for months.
Teigen had lost her mother, and she didn’t understand why. They are very close now, and Pepper even lives with the couple to help care for the children. But Teigen says that the anxiety she experienced at the time makes it hard for her to even remember those days.
Chrissy Teigen was discovered at work
Teigen was just 18 and working in a surf shop in California when a talent scout saw her. He talked her into coming to the beach to take some pictures, and that’s how her modeling career was launched.
By the time she was 21, she was dating Legend and working as a model. But if this sounds like she experienced overnight success, it’s not how it happened. The reality was slower and much more work.
For the first years of her modeling work, Teigen struggled to find jobs that paid the bills. She shared an apartment with six other models, doing small, low-paying modeling jobs and scraping to get by. It took years before she finally made the cover of Sports Illustrated and her career really took off.
Chrissy Teigen is a mom
Teigen and Legend married in 2013. They wanted to start a family right away, but they ran into infertility problems. They’ve been open about the fertility treatments they went through to have their daughter, Luna, in 2016, followed by their son, Miles, in 2018.
As happy as the new parents were to finally have the children they loved, Teigen went through some serious post-partum depression. She got treatment and was able to recover, but she mentioned recently that she’s not feeling herself, which has her fans worried that she could be struggling again.
Chrissy Teigen has a happy family
Through it all, Legend has been right by her side. They’re clearly devoted to each other, and Trevor Noah even says they are the nicest couple out there. They often joke around and flirt with each other on social media.
Despite their busy lives, they also take time to enjoy their children. Watching them play makes it easy to see the love this family shares.
Teigen has had her share of pain in life. With determination and good humor, she’s learned to deal with the struggles she’s faced. It seems clear that the hard times have only made these happy days even sweeter.
