Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) makes a big mistake in scenes set to air on Coronation Street in July as he loses his charity money and spends the night with another man.
With Paul’s MND diagnosis out in the open, his friends and family organise a charity chilli eating competition to raise money that will help Paul as his condition deteriorates.
The competition raises £800 and Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) happily hands the money over to Paul who’s touched by everyone’s generosity.
But Paul’s mood quickly turns sour when Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Bernie continue to argue over crystals and religion.
Paul storms out and heads to a hotel where he spots old flame, Zac, and offers to buy him a drink.
The following morning Paul wakes up in the hotel bedroom with a huge hangover, and finds both Zac and the money missing. Paul hangs his head in shame as he returns home and lies saying to Billy he spent the night on a mate’s sofa.
But when Billy suggests they use the charity money to buy a stairlift and offers to bank it for him, Paul confesses. He explains he met Zac, they got drunk and things got out of hand.
How will Billy react when Paul tells him he spent the night with another man?
Meanwhile, Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) asks for extra shifts when she and Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) realise they can’t afford for Joseph Brown (William Flanagan) to go on a school trip.
Gemma’s completely stressed out when Chesney heads off to work leaving her with five children to look after. She breaks down to Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox) and admits she’s exhausted and feels just how she did when she had postnatal depression.
Matters get worse when Bertie Osborne (Rufus Morgan-Smith) and Glory Bailey (Eleanor Breckles) are dropped off, when Gemma falls asleep, Bertie empties her bag and finds the pack of antidepressants.
Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) and Daniel Osborne (Rob Mallard) arrive and are unimpressed to find Gemma asleep on the sofa. But they’ve got more to worry about when they realise Bertie has eaten Gemma’s tablets.
Plus Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) returns to work, and Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) agrees he can stay behind the scenes until he feels more confident to be front of house.
Leanne suggests he sort out a new wine contract, and it’s not long before Ryan begins flirting with supplier Rose over the phone to get a good deal.
However, Ryan’s thrown when Rose reveals she’s looked at his socials and asks if he’s still single. And Ryan begins to worry when Leanne tells him Rose will be calling in to meet them.
Also on the cobbles, Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) spreads the word that he thinks Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) is depressed and Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) struggles to trust Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien).
