Coronation Street absolutely tore our hearts out in recent scenes as they aired one of the most devastating deaths ever.
Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) was concerned when her beloved dog Cerberus went off his food, and revealed to Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) that he had been ill overnight.
Worried Tyrone suggested Evelyn take him to the vets, though she was reluctant to do so due to the bills that would follow.
However, when she returned home with chicken and rice for the much loved pet, she was instantly horrified when he failed to get up and greet her, as he always did.
Tyrone and Evelyn then scooped up the ten-year-old pup and took him straight to the vets, hoping to get some answers.
As the vet checked him over, he was concerned that he may have eaten something he shouldn’t, though Evelyn was sure that he hadn’t.
The vet decided that he needed to keep Cerberus in to do some tests, so Evelyn said goodbye before heading off home.
While back on the Cobbles, she revealed Cerberus’ condition to Roy Cropper (David Neilson), who had a confession of his own to make.
The café owner revealed that he had dropped an Eccles cake on the ground while in the middle of a nail-biting game of online chess, which he suspected Cerberus may have eaten.
Evelyn was understandably furious that Roy had so carelessly endangered her four-legged friend, and promised to never forgive him should something bad happen.
After a phone call from the vet, Evelyn and Tyrone returned to the surgery, only to be delivered some heart breaking news.

The vet explained that Cerberus’s kidneys were failing, and the kindest thing they could do would be to put him to sleep.
Crushed Evelyn refuses at first, but after learning that Cerberus’ quality of life would be affected if they tried any other treatment, she made the difficult decision to have him put down.
As Cerberus took his final breath, many tears were shed, from characters and viewers alike.
Broken Evelyn returned home without her furry companion, and soon received a visit from Roy, who was desperate to apologise for his part in Cerberus’ demise.
Furious Evelyn accused Roy of killing him and declared that their friendship died when her dog did.
Will Evelyn ever forgive Roy, or has she lost two best friends in one day?
