If you were wondering what from Disney’s back catalog will be included on Disney+, a recent Twitter thread has revealed it will be everything, and we mean everything.
The streaming world is quickly heading down the same route as the podcast one. Completely saturated. Not only are there more podcasts than anyone could listen to even if they didn’t sleep and used every spare hour they had, but even if you focus on one niche topic there will still likely be more podcasts than you could ever have the time for.
The point is obviously not to listen to everything. It’s that there is so much choice that there’s something for everyone, and it’s the consumer’s job to discover which ones they like most and stick with them. In streaming, that hasn’t really been the case. Pretty much everyone has Netflix, and a few people might have a couple of other supplemental services to cater to the few things Netflix doesn’t provide.
That’s all about to change for a number of reasons, but the main reason is Disney+. Disney+ is set to be Netflix’s biggest challenger to date. It will feature original series based in the MCU and Star Wars Universe, include every episode of The Simpsons ever, and will even be cheaper per month than Netflix. As if all of that wasn’t enough, this week, Disney+ revealed every single movie and TV show that will be available on its platform from launch.
Disney+ made its grandiose reveal via what might well be the longest Twitter thread of all time. Plus, to make it easier for potential subscribers looking for something specific, it tweeted every title in chronological order. So it started with Snow White and the Seven Dwarves (released in 1937), then Pinocchio in 1940, and so on.
The catalog extends well beyond well-known classics too. Chances are if Disney has anything to do with it, it will have made the cut. Scrolling through the extensive list, we’ve come across countless movies that we’ve never even heard of, but we’re sure are cult classics that will excite someone. Plus, since every single entry has its very own tweet, Disney can gauge exactly how excited potential subscribers are for each and every movie and show by likes and retweets.
