In the latest episode of Doc Martin, fans watched as Louisa’s father Terry made an unannounced return as his aunt Ruth tried to help with his blood phobia. Despite the change in family dynamics, the doctor continued his work at the practice. Although throughout the episode viewers spotted some unusual names.
As the ITV series is drawing to a close, Wednesday’s instalment of Doc Martin saw another character return after the other week saw Ben Miller come back to reprise his role as the eccentric Stewart James.
Although in the latest episode it was Kenneth Cranham, who plays Louisa’s dad Terry Glasson who came back to star in the 10th and final series after being released from prison.
While juggling his family life with the unannounced visitor the grumpy doctor continued to deal with medical emergencies throughout the episode.
However, with names such as Robin Banks and Gene Simmons, the singer in the rock band Kiss, being mentioned it didn’t go unnoticed by viewers.
It wasn’t long before fans of the show quickly took to Twitter to comment on the funny names that they’d heard throughout the episode.
Vicky said: “Love watching #DocMartin the patient names are hilarious. So far we’ve had Robin Banks tonight.”
“Robin Banks. I’m dead,” commented user Chris Murtargh.”
Liam added: “Gene Simmons! Robin Banks! Love it.”
While funkydesigns said: “These #DocMartin patient names crack me up.”
Spotting another play on names in the last episode, Kim tweeted: “Last week it was Pam Demmick “
It seems as though this has been a running theme throughout the drama that producers have implemented to add some hidden humour into the show.
In former episodes, fans have pointed out patient names such as Kay Kole, Scott Chegg, Anita Bush and Dan Gleballs.
Despite the show’s long-running success, actor Martin Clunes stated that after nearly two decades it was the right time to finally hang up his stethoscope.
Speaking about his role coming to an end, the 60-year-old said paid tribute to Cornwall, where the show is filmed, as he complimented the residents in the area.
He said: “The people of Cornwall, and Port Isaac in particular, have always been so helpful to us when we are making the series.
“We have some great storylines for the new series, and for the Christmas special, which I hope Doc Martin fans will love.
“I shall miss Cornwall and all the lovely people we have worked with. But it is the right time to say farewell to the Doc, and Portwenn.”
With only three episodes left until the end of the series, viewers are left wondering how the Doc will bow out of his role after nearly two decades in Port Isaac.
A synopsis for the next episode reads: “Louisa and Martin head to London for Martin to present his research paper and Janice is looking after the children.
But things don’t go smoothly when Penhale tries to help. Martin also has a few hiccups along the way, including an unexpected proposition or two.”
