In addition to revealing the backstory of the titular antihero from Kahndaq, the approximately 2-minute video features other characters such as Dr. Fate, Hawkman, Atom Smasher and Cyclone.
AceShowbiz -Warner Bros. Pictures has unleashed the first full trailer of “Black Adam” in anticipation of the fall release of the movie. Making its way out online, the trailer introduces the latest DC antihero to get a movie treatment as it reveals his backstory.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s titular character says in voiceover that he was once a slave until he was killed and reborn a god. “My son sacrificed his life to save me,” he laments as he is seen levitating and withstanding gunshots.
From then on Black Adam shows off his godlike abilities, which include flying, taking a hit with metal stick without getting hurt and catching a rocket among other things. But the superpowers come with the downside as Pierce Brosnan‘s Dr. Fate says those powers give Black Adam nothing but “heartache.”
The trailer also features other comic book characters such as Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell). An unlikely hero he is, Black Adam is warned that “heroes don’t kill people,” but he appears to shrug it off as saying, “Well, I do.”
In the end, Black Adam is faced with two choices as Dr. Fate tells him, “My vision has shown me the future. You have two choices. You can be the destroyer of this world or you can be its savior.”
According to its official synopsis, “Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods-and imprisoned just as quickly-Black Adam is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world.”
The movie is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who has also worked with Johnson on “Jungle Cruise“, with the script written by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines & Sohrab Noshirvani. Also starring in the film are Sarah Shahi as Adrianna, Marwan Kenzari as Ishmael and Bodhi Sabongui as Amon.
“Black Adam” will smash into theaters and IMAX internationally beginning October 19 and in North America on October 21.
