It was a night of epic proportion for EastEnders, as — during the final instalment of the 35th anniversary celebrations — chaos ensued, as several mainstays attempted to escape from impending death, but it was ultimately Dennis Rickman (Bleu Landau) who lost his life in tragic scenes.
After trapping Dennis in a room on board the boat, Ian (Adam Woodyatt) searched for the keys in the water, as the young lad banged on the door — desperate to be saved as the water flooded the room.
Eventually, Ian returned with a fire extinguisher in hand, and he repeatedly hit it off the wooden door until it broke a small hole in the middle. A delighted Dennis then realised that the hole wasn’t big enough, but Ian — knowing they were running out of time — didn’t care, and thus proceeded to pull the young boy through the opening.
Once Dennis was free, both he and Ian moved through the water, but another sudden movement resulted in them ending up in the water once more. Ian was then taken to hospital, while Dennis was pulled from the Thames.
Naturally EastEnders fans were shocked to discover that Dennis had died, and they wasted little time in taking to Twitter to voice their horror.

Ian was naturally devastated, as he came to realise that he was responsible for the young man’s demise, while Sharon (Letitia Dean) burst into tears, before banishing lover Keanu (Danny Walters) from her hospital room.
EastEnders continues Monday 24 February at 8pm on BBC One.
