Whitney Dean (played by Shona McGarty) was terrified when she discovered Leo King (Tom Wells) in her house, wielding a knife intent on killing her. Whitney was abused by Leo’s dad, Tony King (Chris Coghill) when she was a child and little was known about Tony’s relationship with Michaela before he dated Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer).

When Michaela first turned up in Walford, she tricked Whitney into sitting down with and discussing Leo’s death.

Whitney felt sorry for her but the grieving mother soon revealed her true feelings and hit out at her son’s killer.

EastEnders viewers know Whitney was subjected to a sinister stalking campaign at the hands of Leo and his death was accidental.

But Michaela is currently holding the market trader hostage in the hopes she will be able to record a confession to take to the police.

In the latest instalment of the BBC soap, Michaela feigned sympathy to try and get Whitney to confess to Leo’s murder.

However, her plan backfired when she ended up revealing she knew what Tony was capable of.

“Whitney are you okay in there,” Michaela asked. “I’m sorry if I pushed too hard, I think what I’m trying to say in a funny kind of way is that I get it.

“I know what Tony was like, manipulative, twisted. I was going to come to his trial and then I bottled it.”

“I couldn’t face seeing you,” she continued. “When I found out what he did to you, I felt terrible but at least I thought I’d protected Leo and done right by him.”

Growing suspicious over Michaela’s confession, Whitney questioned: “Protected him? How?”

“I left him, I took Leo with me,” she answered causing a confused Whitney to clarify: “You left him? I thought he left you for Bianca.”

Michaela admitted she threw Tony out which shocked Whitney as she believed he had left Leo’s mum for Bianca.

Opening the bathroom door so she could look Michaela in the eye, Whitney asked her why she had left Tony.

“Why did you feel terrible Michaela?” Whitney asked and her kidnapper answered: “Because he made me sick.”

“You knew and you never said anything?” Whitney hit back. “You knew what he was, what he was capable of and that’s why you threw him out.”

“I don’t know why I said that, it wasn’t like that,” Michaela pleaded.

“How could you let him do that to me, you let him rape me,” the troubled market trader cried out.

Whitney recently came to terms with realising she wasn’t to blame for the abuse she suffered and she’ll be furious that someone else could have stopped Tony.

Will Whitney’s anger cause her to lash out and kill Michaela?

EastEnders continues Monday on BBC One at 8pm.
