Emmerdales most-loved families torn apart as village changes forever

Emmerdale: Caleb Milligan confronts Kim with Cain

Emmerdale has hinted at what is to come in the New Year, with producer Laura Shaw teasing how two of the village’s “most-loved” families will be ripped apart.

Laura Shaw, an Emmerdale producer, teased 2024 storylines with Express.co.uk and other media at a recent press event on set, warning tragedy will strike.

Laura teased: “There’s going to be tragedy in the village in January that’s going to affect two of our most-loved families.

“It’s ultimately going to tear friendships apart and change the dynamics of one of those families forever.”

However, she kept tight-lipped about which families would be involved in the drama.

With so many Dingles living in the village – could they be one family impacted by tragedy?

The Dingles are always at the heart of Emmerdale’s most hard-hitting storylines, with two playing out on screens at the moment.

One involves Charity Dingle (played by Emma Atkins) getting back into a relationship with Mack Boyd (Lawrence Robb) after he left her for Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland).

Will the pair finally get their happily ever after – or will it all end in tears yet again for the dysfunctional pair?

The other is Lydia Dingle’s (Karen Blick) harrowing rape storyline which played out on screens in September.

Fans will recall she was assaulted by Craig Reed (Ben Addis) who was later brutally beaten up by Lydia’s husband Sam Dingle (James Hooton) who left him for dead.

However, it was Kim Tate’s (Claire King) horse which finished Craig off after the businesswoman came across the bruised and battered rapist while on a hack.

Emmerdale’s Laura has also teased a huge storyline in the coming months for Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter).

“There’s a huge story coming up for Chas in the new year that’s going to be shocking for all her family and friends and villagers around her,” she explained.

“We know that her and Aaron have got quite a strained relationship at the moment and Aaron’s really pushing his mum away.”

Chas’ son Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) returned to the soap earlier this year and he’s been locking horns with Cain.

Laura concluded: “This could be the story that maybe brings those two back together and bonds mother and son again. That’s all for us to find out in the new year.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
