Samantha has been in the acting business for many years, but is arguably best known for her role as Elsa in the West End production of Frozen.
During the time of the announcement Samantha said when she first watched the 2013 Disney animated film she was moved by Elsa's predicament: estranged from her adored sister Anna; stuck at the top of a snowy mountain in an enchanted ice fortress.
Barks said: “Elsa has got to learn to control her powers.
“She's a strong woman, and all of a sudden she's saying: 'I'm not going to hold back any more!' That's so powerful, especially for a young girl. Actually, not just females…men are touched by that song, too.”
She added that she liked the relationship between Elsa and Anna.
“The whole show demonstrates the strength of two sisters.
"There's no Prince Charming riding in on a white horse. The sisters save each other.”
Samantha has performed in a number of musicals prior to being in Frozen.
Her performance as Époninie in Les Misérables in 2010 was widely acclaimed, and earned nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
She has also performed in other musicals such as: Cabaret (2008-2009) as Sally Bowles; Nancy in Oliver! (2011-2013); Velma Kelly in Chicago (2013); and Vivian Ward in Pretty Women: The musical (2018-2019), just to name a few.
In 2021, she got engaged to actor Alex Michael Stoll, whom she met while they were both in the Broadway production of Pretty Woman.
Samantha shared the news on her Instagram, posting a picture of her diamond ring as the two cuddle each other in the snow.
She wrote: “Like Beyoncé… but with an F." Her caption was finished by a picture of the engagement ring.
