Glastonbury ‘could be cancelled in next 24 hours’ as coronavirus throws festival’s future into doubt – The Sun

MASSIVE music festival Glastonbury is on the verge of being cancelled thanks to the coronavirus.
Even though organisers announced a stellar line-up for this year's festival just last week, it looks like they might have changed their mind.

According to one avid fan, staff are set to meet today to decided whether to go ahead with the five-day festival which attracts crowds of about 200,000 people.
The fan posted on Facebook group Glasto Chat saying the meeting was taking place.
"I run the Glastonbury Reddit. We have paid festival staff on there. I’ve had numerous PMs from them to say they have been called into big meeting scheduled for tomorrow," the fan wrote.

"There should be an announcement very soon after to confirm the cancellation.

They added: "Main reasons given will be the lack of medical staff, police support and impending balance deadline."
This year's festival, set to run from June 24 – 28 had Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar as headline acts.
Festival organiser Emily Eavis last week reassured fans she was doing everything she could to prepare for business as usual amid the coronavirus crisis.
"So, after much consideration given the current circumstances, and with the best of intentions, here is the first list of musical acts for Glastonbury 2020," she wrote on Instagram.

"As things stand we are still working hard to deliver our 50th anniversary Festival in June and we are very proud of the bill that we have put together over the last year or so. No one has a crystal ball to see exactly where we will all be 15 weeks from now, but we are keeping our fingers firmly crossed that it will be here at Worthy Farm for the greatest show on Earth!⁣"

Diana Ross was already revealed to be performing in the coveted legend's slot on Sunday afternoon.
Other acts revealed include Dua Lipa, Camilla Cabello, Sam Fender and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
A cancellation or postponement of Glastonbury seems inevitable as major events around the world are stopping due to coronavirus.

The US music festival Coachella was postponed until September, while The Who, Pearl Jam, BTS and Madonna have all postponed tours as virus rates continue to soar.

The festival – held at Worthy Farm in Somerset –is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Glastonbury's head of event operations, told Somerset Live: "Glastonbury Festival thoroughly plans each year's event, and puts in place all necessary measures to protect the public and maximise safety.
"We work closely with all of the relevant agencies, including Public Health England and the NHS, and always review our plans as any circumstances change.

"With this in mind and with our 2020 Festival still 16 weeks away, we continue to plan and prepare for the event, whilst at the same time closely monitoring developments with the coronavirus situation."

But that could all change after today's meeting and following PM Boris Johnson's warning to avoid unnecessary social contact.
He said "drastic action" was needed to curb the spread of the deadly virus and described the UK as being only three weeks behind Italy, one of the worse affected countries.
The PM warned people should work from home, stay indoors, avoid non-essential travel and to avoid crowded places such as pubs, restaurants or cinemas.

The UK currently has 1,950 cases of coronavirus and 71 reported deaths.

The Sun Online has reached out to Glastonbury organisers for comment.
