Gordon Ramsay's neighbours in Cornwall are 'jealous' says Jeremy Clarkson after chef quit London for holiday home

JEREMY Clarkson has thrown his support behind Gordon Ramsay after the celebrity chef was blasted for moving his family to Cornwall to isolate during the coronavirus lockdown.

Gordon, 53, and his wife Tana, 45, left residents fuming after they quit their London residence with their kids before shacking up in their £4 million second home in the west country.

Locals accused the Ramsays of "flouting Government restrictions" and even suggested they "could have brought Covid-19 to Cornwall" after deciding to spend lockdown by the coast.

But while their neighbours are furious, fellow Brit celeb Jeremy Clarkson has stuck up for his Scots-born showbiz pal.

Writing in his Sunday Times column, Jeremy said he was beginning to disagree with the belief that the coronavirus pandemic is "bringing out the best" in most people.

The Grand Tour host went on to voice his disgust at "fights in supermarkets" and "mealymouthed old bats patrolling the streets with tape measures".

Jeremy said: "All of which brings us, naturally, to Gordon Ramsay.

"He decided that if he was going to have to stay at home, the home he'd like to stay at was his backup pad in Cornwall.

"If the virus had brought out the best in his neighbours, they'd have left a nice cake and a welcoming trug full of vegetables outside his front door.

"Instead, they're all running around saying the crinkly old b*stard should bugger off back to Scotland."

Jeremy went on: "We can't blame what we can't see, so we are lashing out at people walking in the Peak District and sunbathers and Gordon Ramsay and those poor souls who host the daily press conferences and Jeff Bezos and anyone who we think is better off than we are."

He concluded: "The real reason people resent these weekenders is bitterness. It's petty jealousy."

Following Gordon and his family's recent upheaval to Cornwall, they were met with criticism on social media from angry locals.

One blasted: "Don’t you realise that by doing that you’ve possibly brought the virus with you and because Cornwall is not your main residence, if you and your family get sick you will place yet more strain on an already fragile infrastructure.

“I’m reporting you to the police. What you’ve done is against the law and I hope they force you back to London."

Another bluntly wrote: “P**s off out of Cornwall, you’re not wanted.”

A third vented: “Cornwall MPs have specifically asked for people with a second home not to do this. You might be rich and famous but you’re not special and you’re setting a bad example! Really disappointing.”

He was even snapped getting into a row with a furious local after driving to get groceries in his Land Rover.

Gordon has, however, since hit back at his unhappy neighbours.

After receiving a gift of asparagus on his front doorstep, he wrote on social media: "Now what a lovely, beautiful, generous little gift.

“A little gift from the fields across your house. C’mon, seriously, that’s literally growing in the back of my garden.

“Now that’s what I call love thy neighbour, see?

“That’s how you look after each other across these difficult times. There you go.”

Gordon has also made a dig at local residents after attempting to make a luxury burger in just 10 minutes – before donating £10,000 to the NHS.

After failing to complete it within his time limit, the star then filmed himself running off towards his neighbour's home with the burger in his hand.

He told his followers: "I'm not going to eat this. I'm going to give it to the neighbours next door. Hopefully that might put a smile on their face."

Gordon then ran out of the kitchen door and towards what appeared to be his neighbour's house, shouting: "Love thy neighbour!" while his daughter giggled.
