Grace teaser shown on This Morning
Season three of Grace concludes this evening (April 2) on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm with a chilling case titled Not Yet Dead, which will see Roy Grace (played by John Simm) and Glenn Branson (Richie Campbell) investigating the death of rising music star Gaia Lafayette (Victoria Emslie). Fans can expect another dark tale from this Brighton-based drama. This is the finale of the latest run and some fans may be wondering what’s next for Grace.
Will there be another series of Grace?
Yes, is the short answer – ITV confirm season four earlier this year.
Season four got the green light in January, prior to the third outing landing recently with filming taking place soon.
The new series is most likely to be hitting screens in 2024, although ITV has yet to confirm a premiere date.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Campbell said: “We’re about to start filming”, while Simm said they would be shooting four films rather than three.
Filming will again be taking place in and around Brighton and the surrounding areas.
Campbell and Simm also said they were happy to keep going with Grace and continue adapting the Peter James novels.
Branson star Campbell added: “I’m really interested to see where the trajectory goes with these characters that we’re playing.”
He said he wanted to explore where Branson would go next and enjoyed going back to the character.
Campbell said Branson was one of the few characters he enjoyed reprising: “I’m one of those people when it’s done it’s done. I’m ruthless. I don’t feel it at the time.
“Like when things have been cut, I cry my eyes out but I think everything happens for a reason.”
In fact, the stars said they would be up for filming all of the Grace novels in James’ series which consists of a total of 19 books to date.
Simm admitted he was worried the show would quickly be catching up with the novels as Campbell joked the best-selling crime author would have to start “writing seven books a year” to keep up with the pace of the show.
Interestingly, Simm said even if the ITV show out-paced the novels, he’d been told James had storylines banked up for the programme-makers to use.
Much like the previous outing, season four is likely to be aired weekly on ITV1 on a weekly basis.
Grace has been adapting James’ novels in the order they were written, so the books expected to be turned into episodes next are Dead Man’s Time (2013), Want You Dead (2014), You Are Dead (2015) and Love You Dead (2016).
James has written several Grace books while the show has been filming with the most recent instalment published in 2022.
Reflecting on Grace’s success, Campbell said: “There’s already a fanbase who love the books, so they’re intrigued, they want the show to do well, they want to see the show.

“So there’s those people and there’s people who come to the show new and fresh and their fans of crime dramas or fans of whatever.
“When you bring that together, it’s a good thing. It’s like you’re in a win-win situation especially if the product is good.
“That’s why we’re in this situation where we’ve had so many viewers watching more than an episode of Peaky Blinders. It just feels all the components are fitting nicely at the minute. Long may it continue.”
Addressing the appeal of Grace and crime dramas generally, Campbell said: “It’s like getting into people’s psyche and trying to understand why people do things and if you can do that from the comfort of your home, it’s quite nice, it’s almost like voyeurism.
“You’re trying to understand a puzzle, you’re trying to fix it and there’s a gratification of ‘I fixed it’ alongside the detectives or whoever’s there.”
Grace airs on ITV1 and ITV tonight at 8pm
