Helen Skelton returned to Cannon Hall Farm in south Yorkshire with Jules Hudson to host a week of live winter shows. During the opening of the first show on Channel 5 on Monday evening, Jules asked Helen if she could give them a sneak peek at her dances on Saturday night. However, she took a cheeky swipe at the BBC when she explained they would get their “knickers in a twist” if she exposed anything.
Kicking off the show, Jules teased: “The huge elephant-sized glitterball in the room, you getting to the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing!
“What about that! What a journey you have been on, surely we’re going to see some moves tonight?”
Helen was quick to play down her chances at winning the Glitterball Trophy and said: “I’ve been having so much fun and I’m really grateful for all of the support.
“But I can’t show you a move. If I even think about dancing the BBC will get their knickers in a twist.
“It will set off a Strictly alarm. Craig Revel Horwood will rush in here and wrestle me to the ground,” she joked.
As she put one foot in front of the other, a small alarm went off to stop her from going any further, making light of the joke.
Jules laughed and added: “Well in that case I just wanna say that we are so proud of you and hopefully you will be holding that Glitterball in a couple of weeks’ time.”
Helen warned her co-host: “Don’t jinx it – but that only happens if you vote.”
Last week, Helen and Gorka performed their couple’s choice dance to Mein Herr from Cabaret and stunned the audience and judges.
Before taking to the dancefloor Helen explained in a VT that she was excited to do something different without all the rules.
She said: “This week is couple’s choice and we are dancing to a song from Cabaret the musical, this is a good chance to do something a bit different.
“And everything about this experience is a world away from my normal life. I had the kind of idyllic childhood that you would wish for your kids.
“I grew up on a farm on the edge of the Lake District and I will never take that upbringing for granted, my family is everything to me.”
She continued: “I did Strictly this year because sometimes you just need to jump on the opportunity and the chance to put a big smile on your face!”
As their performance came to an end they were met with an uproar from the audience and even had head judge Shirley Ballas on her feet.
Commenting on their performance, she exclaimed: “I mean, am I looking at a mummy of three?
“Am I looking at a young lady that has grown from a timid shy girl from week one to this sensual performance? I’ve got goosebumps all over me!
“Absolutely off the chat in every way, from technique to coordination, to how you danced with your partner, to how you danced with the professionals.
“It was a memory I will treasure forever, well done.”
Winter on the Farm continues Tuesday from 8pm on Channel 5.
