Home and Aways Mia rape horror rocks Chloe as star hints Matthew is bad news

Things are set to turn tense in Home and Away next week, as Chloe Anderson's long-lost father Matthew shows up to wreak havoc.

But while Chloe is eager to get to know her father-figure – and he's desperate to make contact with her – actress Sam Barrett has warned it's definitely not good news for the future of her family in an exclusive chat with Daily Star.

With Matthew trying to contact Mia – and Mia desperate to keep it a secret – things are set to get tense next year as she spots Chloe's father heading from the gym where he was enquiring about her.

Frozen with fear, Mia warns Matthew she doesn't want any contact with him at all after what happened – but accidentally lets slip to Matthew that she has a daughter. He's adamant to meet Chloe, and when Irene inadvertently hands him her business card, he has the perfect way to.

Confused as to why Mia never told him about his daughter, Matthew confronts a terrified Mia, who reveals that she never gave consent the night Chloe was conceived, and didn't know how to tell her daughter she was the product of a sexual assault.

It's not how Matthew remembers the night, being drunk at the time, but Mia warns him it’s not a good look for a barrister of his calibre to have this story come out, and demands he leave their life for good.

But will he stay away?

Speaking to Daily Star, Chloe actress Sam Barrett explained: "Well, Matthew seems really genuine to her, but at first the whole thing is kind of intimidating and just staring her in the face.

"It does feel strange for Chloe but she’s curious so she kind of lets herself sit in that feeling of being uncomfortable at first so she can get to know him.

"So I think she's like, 'I don't know how to feel because that's not what I've believed my whole life, that my dad would ever try to make contact with me or was possibly even alive'."

Speaking about Mia's feelings throughout the ordeal, Sam explained: "It’s obviously an incredibly difficult situation Mia is in. And something she needs to be able to deal with in a way that’s best for her.

"I feel because Chloe and Mia are so close, there aren’t really any secrets between them. In the past Chloe was told by Mia that Ari didn’t want to be in Chloe’s life anymore, but I think because she was close with Ari, she always questioned that.

"But with Matthew she hasn’t known him at all. So her instincts with Matthew are quite off unfortunately," Sam warned.

The soap star suggested that for Chloe and her dad to form a healthy relationship, there would need to be a "mediator" involved, as she suggested: "I think it would need to be handled with care and with a way that still respects Mia’s mental health and privacy."

And it's clear Sam doesn't see the storyline ending happily, as she added: "I see it not having a very fortunate ending, I think. Not something anyone would have pre-empted."
