Jake Quickenden hits back after being ‘weight-shamed’ on Steph’s Packed Lunch – but his explanation worries fans more | The Sun

JAKE Quickenden has hit back after being "weight-shamed" following an appearance on Steph's Packed Lunch.

The former X Factor star, 35, featured on Steph's Packed Lunch this week ahead of his Mixed Martial Arts debut fight in November.

Some fans were quick to take to social media to comment on Jake's strikingly different appearance and he shared a post on Instagram hitting back.

One concerned fan branded him "gaunt" and added: "I hope he's ok!"

In a lengthy response, Jake urged people to "be careful" when commenting on someone's weight.

He wrote: "I know sometimes it comes from a good place but you never know what someone is going through and a comment can really set people back if struggling.

"I’ve been training hard, working a lot and been ill recently I also have to make weight for my fight coming up which is a lot lower than I walk about at.

"I’m fine and as soon as the fight over I will return to my normal weight, it’s not sustainable and I’m miserable and hungry most the time."

However Jake, who shares son Leon with fiancée Sophie Church, sparked further concern when he admitted he hasn't been enjoying life lately.

He wrote: "Life is to be enjoyed and have everything in moderation which I haven’t been doing."

Jake opened up to The Sun earlier this year about previously struggling with his mental health, and his followers insisted their concern came from a good place.

One wrote: "The comments are probably coming from a good place and when people know you have mental health issues I think it's important to say it out loud in case that person needs help."

Another said: "I don’t think this is about weight, it sounds much more to me about someone being concerned for your well being, which is very important."

Jake was on Steph's Packed Lunch with his Full Monty Tour co-stars Bill Ward and Danny Hatchard.
