Daniel Craig has performed as James Bond in four movies, with his fifth coming out soon. No Time To Die has been reported as Craig’s last movie in the role, however some speculate whether he will choose to return. Is Daniel Craig definitely exiting the franchise with the next James Bond movie?

It seems pretty certain that Craig will leave the franchise after No Time to Die, despite him professing to be finished after they made Spectre.
Spectre, Bond 24, was expected to be Craig’s last film, until he did a somewhat U-turn and came back to the franchise.
Many have wondered whether this move means he will also return after Bond 25, No Time to Die, but this time around there are some hints to suggest he means it this time.
The first hint is in an interview he did back in November 2019, where he pretty much confirmed this is the last one.
Speaking to USA Today, he said: “I’ve had a really good run, and I think doing this movie was the right thing to do.

“It was the right thing to do one more.”
This seems to be a pretty firm confirmation that this is the final movie, however, given he believed doing an extra movie was “the right thing to do,” there’s no telling whether he won’t feel that another “one more” is necessary.
Another reason, with this being said, that No Time to Die is likely the last film for Craig, is that he has clearly had a big influence on how No Time to Die takes place.
Daniel Craig has usually performed in the Bond films admirably, but in the most recent film, there has been headline after headline about him having a firm grip on the movie’s production.
For example, director Danny Boyle left the franchise due to “creative differences,” later confirming it was due to script issues.
While he has refused to reveal what those issues were, some have reported it may be that Craig has even more of a hand in the script decisions, meaning the pair did not agree.
In 2018, The Telegraph reported Boyle ‘clashed’ with Daniel Craig over the decision to ‘cast a Russian villain,’ in his script which was a modern Cold War-centred script.
A source told the publication: “Craig has a big say in all the casting decisions. None of the Bond girls have been chosen without his say so.
“For example he chose Eva Green to be the Bond girl when it came to the final four for Casino Royale and that has been the case for all the Bond girls he has worked with.
“It was telling the producers put his [Craig’s] name on their release saying that Boyle had been sacked.

“I have heard that they wanted to bring that Cold War element in but update it to the modern day.
“Danny Boyle was in for that. That wasn’t the problem. The problem came in when they were making the final decisions about casting pre-production.”
The Bond Twitter account did include Daniel Craig in the list of those making the announcement about Boyle’s departure, along with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson.
It has also been reported Craig asked Phoebe Waller-Bridge to make script edits due to his admiration of her, as well as singer Billie Eilish and her brother/producer Finneas speaking about Craig’s dominion over the song.
Asked about how it felt to write the James Bond song on BBC Breakfast, Finneas said: “Well this is the first song I know Daniel’s [Craig] opinion of, of ours.”

Asked what his opinion was, Finneas replied: “Well he had to like it. If Daniel doesn’t like it, you don’t get the job.”
Eilish added: “He has got a big say on it, we learned that from this.”
Clearly, Craig wishes to make his stamp on his final Bond movie, and these decisions make it clear he wants to go out with a bang.
The final reason which hints at his departure is his career outside of Bond.
After the second of his Bond movies, Quantum of Solace, Daniel Craig performed in a large number of movies, including Defiance, Cowboys and Aliens and The Adventures of Tintin.
Between Skyfall and Spectre, in contrast, Craig performed in no movies outside of Bond.
However, after Spectre, the actor performed in just three films: Logan Lucky, Kings and Knives Out, as well as having a short cameo as a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
It seems as though, after Craig though he was done with Bond, he wanted to get back out there and try new things, which may be the reason why he is hanging up his 007 mantle now.
Knives Out, a film by Rian Johnson, even gained him some awards attention, so he may be ready to get back in the saddle and try and earn himself the same accolades as his wife, Rachel Weisz, for his acting prowess.
Whatever the reason is, we know Craig is leaving the franchise, and let’s hope it is with the bang he is trying to get.
