Jessica Lange talks about returning to America Horror Story
Jessica Lange could soon be leaving showbusiness for good as the American Horror Story actress points out movies are now simply made to make money rather than for the art.
The 74-year-old has starred in some memorable work during her career so far, including Tootsie, King Kong, The Vow, Sybil, Cape Fear and Titus, just to name a few.
Of course, she wowed FX and Disney+ subscribers when she starred in Ryan Murphy’s hit horror drama series American Horror Story.
However, after almost five decades in the industry, fans may no longer see Lange on either the big or small screen.
This is because the star has opened up on retiring from showbusiness due to her beliefs about movie making in 2023.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Lange explained: “I think I’m going to start phasing out of filmmaking”, later adding: “I don’t think I’ll do this too much longer.”
She went on to elaborate that it had nothing to do with her age but because of a “sense of deep disillusionment” with what kind of films are being made nowadays and why.
Lange continued: “Creativity is secondary now to corporate profits.
“The emphasis becomes not on the art or the artist or the storytelling.
“It becomes about satisfying your stockholders. It diminishes the artist and the art of filmmaking.”

She added how “‘wonderful films by really great filmmakers, wonderful stories, great characters” are now “incredibly “rare”.
The actress’ reasons for wanting to leave Hollywood behind may be because creators are more interested in “profits”, but she has previously talked about the double standards.
Opening up to AARP in 2017, Lange spoke of how there are not many great parts for older women, unlike for older men.

“You don’t often see women in their 60s playing romantic leads, yet you will see men in their 60s playing romantic leads with co-stars who are decades younger,” she said.
“I think about how few wonderful actresses of my generation are still doing viable, important film work.
“You go to television. You go to the stage. You do whatever you can because you want to keep working.”
American Horror Story is available on FX and Disney+.
