Laura, 38, flew over to Fuerteventura to help Sarah and Simon from Gloucestershire find the holiday home of their dreams. Before showing them around the eligible properties on offer to them, the A Place in the Sun presenter wanted to get a grasp of what the couple were actually looking for. The Spanish town of Corralejo was the location of choice and what the Channel 4 show host learnt was the scenery meant more than size. However, they then made a confession which meant the property expert had a lot of work on her shoulders.

Explaining their decision to move abroad, Sarah said: “Simon’s retired, my children are growing up and leaving home.”

The homebuyer’s partner then added: “We’ve got a granddaughter we want to take out and show the areas we love here.”

“It feels like our turn for a little adventure or a big adventure actually,” the grandmother explained before Simon told Laura: “All of that together means now is a great time and I’m sure you’ll find us a fantastic property.”

Discussing their criteria, Sarah took the reins as she said to the presenter: “I know it makes your life very difficult but we do love the centre of Corralejo.”

After hearing the checklist the couple wanted for their dream home, the host commented: “The things you’re mentioning; a pool, a view, two bedrooms, these things come at a price.”

Talking budget, Laura discovered the pair had £200,000 to play around with but they said they wanted to spend less.

“Is there any wiggle room at all?” the property expert asked, to which Simon shut her down by replying: “No”.

The host told them: “Just to let you know, a couple of months ago, a frontline two-bedroom apartment with spectacular views sold for over £300,000.

“I’ll show you the best options but I do need you to be realistic,” the presenter honestly commented on the property search.

Simon then added: “What we’re talking about is our ideal property and we recognise we would have to have compromises.

“Then we’ll have to decide which ones we want and which we don’t,” he continued before Sarah told the presenter: “If it was easy, we would have found it ourselves.

“We wouldn’t have needed your help,” the potential homebuyer remarked with Laura rounding off the discussion by saying she would try her best.

As the episode continued, it was clear Laura was struggling to find the pair the holiday home of their dreams.

With Sarah and Simon having given the premise of their ideal property, the first three places the presenter showed them around didn’t meet their criteria.

The couple even said they were having to make a lot of compromises if they decided to buy any of the first three.

However, the fourth property was more in line with their checklist as they liked both the size and the location.

It was a little above their budget, as Laura explained the villa with a sea view was on the market for £241,228.

Simon did say the property should be given “serious consideration” with Sarah adding she did want to make some changes to the interior.

The presenter told the couple she felt she had to “redeem herself” following their disappointment with the first three houses.

Before the end of the show, the couple put in an offer of just over £190,000, but the agent told Laura the seller wasn’t willing to drop below £211,000.

Unfortunately, Sarah and Simon didn’t get the house of their dreams but are still on the search in the Spanish town.

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 4pm on Channel 4.
