Love Island fans speculate villa could be split in two – as second fire pit is spotted

The eighth season of popular ITV show Love Island is underway, and aside from the coupling drama, eagle-eyed fans are speculating that the villa could be split into two – as a ‘second fire pit is spotted’.

Most of the show’s significant announcements are made by host Laura Whitmore, 37 around the iconic fire pit, making it an integral part of the show, but the inclusion of a second pit has lead some fans to believe there may be even more drama ahead.

The rumours first began to swirl earlier this week when journalist Orlaith Condon announced on her podcast My Pod On Paper, that a second fire pit had been built into the newly renovated Mallorcan villa.

"I teased something on the podcast last night about a source that I have, that knew secret information about the new villa,“ said Orlaith.

She then went on: "They revealed it to me because they know I’m a freak and I’m obsessed with the small details. It could mean nothing, but it could also tie into a theory."

"There is a second fire pit at the villa. I don’t believe they’ve shown it on camera, but there is a second fire pit in the villa and apparently Love Island producers were like, 'It’s very hush hush’."

The journalist then went on to draw parallels to another popular ITV reality show, I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, which famously held a scenario in which the camp was split into two, while speculating that Love Island may potentially choose to do the same for the contestants.

Continuing her thoughts, Orlaith said: ”When I heard this I [thought], are they going to do some kind of I’m A Celeb [scenario] with two camps, two platforms, teams? Because the fire pit is very much the ceremonial space.

“I would like to believe that they wouldn’t include a new fire pit that cost to build, and I also think if you’re keeping it under lock and key they’re not just doing it for a flurry of excitement about a fire pit.

The journalist then concluded: ”I am like, could this mean a second or a team scenario, or splitting the villa in half or two…? I think it could mean something exciting, I don’t know!”

Following the shocking speculation, many fans took to social media to express their thoughts, including several which directly referenced Orlaith’s revelations as they posted on Reddit.

"Okay so SPOILER potentially for the season if you hate any sort of spoilers!!" wrote one fan before continuing: “The host of My Pod On Paper Orlaith has said on the most recent episode which I just listened to on my commute that she has an inside source who has said that there are two fire pits in the villa and one hasn’t been shown at all yet.”

They went on: “Which suggests that they could be doing a big switcheroo/twist at some point.

“However, it could come to nothing, much like the Hideaway in Casa Amor last year LMAO.”

One eagle-eyed fan also revealed that one of the Islanders had already spotted the second fire pit in scenes aired earlier this week.

They wrote: “One of the Islanders pointed at something off-screen and asked if it was the fire pit, but then they went to the one we saw!!”

Another added: “OMG you’re right!!”

Despite the addition of a second fire pit, show bosses have insisted that the stunning six bedded property simply came with two when it was purchased for the show.

Nestled in the Mallorcan countryside, this year’s villa recently underwent a total overhaul in order to be ready for the singletons looking for love in the latest series.

Kitted out with a huge pool, lavish outdoor kitchen and neon slogans throughout, the property also boasts plenty of space for the contestants to steal a sneaky moment alone with their crush in the hopes of coupling up.

Love Island continues every night at 9pm on ITV2.
