Well, what an evening!
From dumpings to doing bits…from new couples to not understanding how a metaphor works, this really was an intense hour of Love Island
Coming down from the high of last night’s episode was always going to be inevitable, but we didn’t understand just how much of an emotional rollercoaster this would be.
Let’s dig in.
Paige Turley and Finley Tapp celebrated going official
As Love Island has slowly become more mainstream in its popularity since its first series, the one noticeable aspect of the show that’s been toned down is the Islanders ‘doing bits,’ as they would put it.
Now that most people know once you’re in the villa in an established couple that a sponsored post on Insta for some charcoal toothpaste and a range with a fast-fashion brand is no longer just a twinkle in your eye but a solid inevitability, the urge to let your freak flag fly is dulled somewhat.
Well, the same can’t be said for Paige and Finn – who celebrated their status as the villa’s first official couple by…well…we couldn’t actually tell because the night vision was a bit blurry, soz.
But let’s just say – everyone at home is now pretty much convinced they’ve had sex.
Siannise Fudge plays cupid with Demi Jones and Luke Mabbott
Siannise really had made some major moves in the villa and – thanks to a successful recoupling post-Casa Amor with Luke T – is well on her way to becoming the de facto mother hen of the villa.
And what can’t a mother hen do but help one of her little chicks when she’s in need?
Following the inevitable end of Newcastle’s best Justin Bieber lookalike and Natalia’s short-lived relationship, it was a stroke of genius for Siannise and Luke T to set up two of the villa’s most likeable personalities who had been set adrift by their other halves.
Demi really has emerged like a phoenix from the ashes of Nas’ brutal re-coupling stroke, and even though it may have seemed a bit forced at times (can you ever, really, enjoy a kiss when an entire villa full of your mates are waiting for you to snog before erupting into rapturous applause?) we have our heart set on this couple lasting.
We mean, the kiss was certainly full-on.
Finley really doesn’t understand the concept of a metaphor
Finely had a brief breakfast catch up with the two Lukes to discuss what happened with Paige the previous night.
Well, he kind of did. We don’t quite know, really.
The boys came up with the ingenious idea of relaying the sensitive information through a secret code, disguised as a metaphor for breakfast.
Only, the metaphor was so complicated and convoluted, we doubt even Shakespeare himself could have made sense of it.
Avacado? Toast? Tomatoes (with an emphasis on the toe)?? What does it all mean?
Rebecca Gormley and Jordan Waobikeze, Nas Majeed and Eva Zapico are dumped from the villa in a brutal eviction
Whilst Rebecca and Jordan’s fate isn’t all that surprising – their relationship really did fizzle out quite quickly once the main villa was back in one piece – it’s sad to see Nas, one of the villa’s biggest personalities go.
We can’t help but feel that this is the viewers’ form of karma after he left Demi high and dry after Casa Amor. Let’s not forget, before Casa Amor, the public had hailed the couple as potential winners.
And a moment of silence for Rebecca, please, who came into the villa looking like an actual Greek goddess, managed to spin each of the boys’ head 180 degrees within five seconds of meeting them, but ended up getting dumped with a guy she liked, but clearly not too much.
Sometimes, you play the game so hard it plays you back.
Shaughna Phillips has a date with new boy Jamie tomorrow night
Now this is what we’re talking about.
Shaughna, our reigning and beloved queen, might finally have a second chance of love.
She’s been forged through the flames of heartbreak (thanks Callum!) and she’s ready to let a new man back into her life, so it’s no surprise she’s the first girl to be picked to go on a date with new boy Jamie.
That’s the good news. The bad news is he looks like the type of boy to buy you drinks all night in a Pryzm of your choice, before leaving you on read the next day.
We can only hope he’s the man our queen deserves. Just please don’t say he’s a scaffolder.
Love Island continues daily, at 9pm, on ITV2.
