Lucifer (played by Tom Ellis) has always been a bit of a troublemaker. Considering he is the actual Devil, he has never really been in the good books of God, but with his final season on the way, he has an opportunity to make amends. Netflix subscribers last saw the Devil returning to Hell after seemingly getting together with Chloe Decker (Lauren German).
However, their love was entirely short-lived, as Lucifer then found himself in control of Hell once again, with no real way of getting away from it.
His absence from the proverbial cesspit allowed various demons to get loose and cause chaos in Los Angeles.
Therefore, he is not really in any position to leave anytime soon.
That is unless he has some sort of expressed permission from his father, God.

God was recently cast in the fifth and final season of Lucifer and will be played by actor Dennis Haysbert.
With God now taking such a large position in the final season, viewers will surely see him make some big movements in the show’s final narrative arcs.
But could Lucifer’s story mimic that of one from the Bible?
In the Old Testament, a story is told about the Prodigal Son. This story involves two sons – one, a well-behaved son who does as his father says, and another, a rebellious youth.
This story can easily be related to both Lucifer and Amenadiel (DB Woodside).
As God is due to make his arrival on the show in the coming months, could Amenadiel act as the first, obedient son, whilst Lucifer is the unruly, unpredictable son?
If so, will Lucifer be welcomed back into heaven with open arms just like in the story?
This event would certainly solve all of his problems, as he would then be able to stay on Earth with his newfound love, Chloe.

But that does beg the question: What would happen to Hell in this instance?
On hiring Haysbert, Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson told Entertainment Weekly: “We did like the big crazy list of [possible actors for the part], and he was my top choice.
“We were lucky. It was our first and only offer.”
Meanwhile, Lucifer star Tom Ellis has been speaking out about the final scenes of season four.

- Lucifer season 5: How long will Lucifer stay in Hell for?
Once Chloe told Lucifer she loved him, he didn’t respond and instead left Earth – and Tom has teased this is a significant detail for season five.
He said: “Some viewers will note that Lucifer didn’t actually say I love you back.”
On whether that was an intentional detail, he responded: “Everything’s intentional in this show.”
But does this mean Lucifer doesn’t really love Chloe? Or was he simply just too afraid to tell her how he felt?
Lucifer season 5 is released on Netflix in 2020.
